Former supermodel Janice Dickinson and pantomime star Christopher Biggins were told first that they had made the final day in camp, before the phone lines reopened as Cerys and former boy band member "J" went head-to-head.
In her interview with Ant and Dec, Cerys said she was "gutted" after being told that fellow contestant Marc Bannerman was not in Australia.
Marc wrote in a letter to Cerys: "There are many problems in London and I’ve had to go back to try and sort them out - but I may well return to greet you when you come out, if that is your wish. Marc."
She later sent a message to Marc through the Bush Telegraph: "I’d love him to come out if that’s what he thinks is a good idea, because he knows all the answers now.
She added: "I don’t want to make any more mess than I’ve maybe already made."
She told Ant and Dec: "I’m a bit gutted he’s not here, actually. But I have got my kids waiting for me."
Asked when she realised she was first attracted to him, Matthews said: "We got on well from the beginning... We started spending more time together and it was like: ’Oh, shoot’, because it’s not right, is it?"
Marc and Cerys’ private moments? - Nov 26 2007
John Burton Race has apparently claimed that Cerys Matthews and Marc Bannerman got a lot closer on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here than viewers were allowed to see.
The TV chef, who was booted out of the jungle on Saturday, said the loved-up pair would sneak away from camp to talk out of sight of the cameras, reports the Daily Star.
John, 50, said: "There were times when the pair disappeared off together. I have to say that. There are things the viewers wouldn’t have seen or heard in there. Relationships are formed. And if you want to talk privately you put your hand over your mic."
He added: "There are periods when you can disappear for private conversations. I did it. I’m not sure if I got away with it. But I confided in Katie more than I probably should have done."
But the camp cook said he wished the pair well, adding: "I liked both of them. Marc tried to make everyone feel comfortable in camp. Everyone had moments of doubt and homesickness. He was really charming. And Cerys is a one-off. She is very special and generous. She is just beautiful."
Cerys gets note from Marc - Nov 26 2007
Cerys Matthews had a shock when she received a tender letter from Marc Bannerman, who was evicted from I’m A Celebrity after the pair grew close.
The ex-EastEnders star constantly flirted with the former Catatonia singer in the jungle - despite having a long-term girlfriend, actress Sarah Matravers.
In his letter to Cerys, the actor wrote: "There are many problems in London and I’ve had to go back to try and sort them out - but I may well return to greet you when you come out, if that is your wish. Marc."
Looking stunned after receiving it, the singer went off for a private heart-to-heart with Changing Rooms designer Anna Ryder Richardson.
She admitted: "I’m just numb."
Anna told her: "You haven’t done anything, apart from meet somebody you have a really big connection with.
"Cerys, if you were some big over-the-top bird who had sauntered in and flirted all over him and actively gone out to get him, maybe people would be saying horrible things.
