Billy Connolly

Billy Connolly

  • Profession: Comedian and Actor
  • Place/Date of Birth: Glasgow, 24 November 2020

His career began as a musician in folk-pop duo the Humblebums. He got his break in comedy on the BBC’s Parkinson show in 1975, and has since delighted audiences all over the world with his controversial stand-up shows.

Billy’s Dinner Date - Aug 06

Comedian Billy Connolly is the guest most Scots would like as a dinner party guest according to a recent survey.  The Big Yin took a huge 36% of the vote, beating Gordon Ramsay (who would almost certainly be handier in the kitchen) to the top spot.  Well, if nothing else Scotland can’t be accused of being prudish about dinner table language.

Balls to Billy - Aug 06
The Secret Policemen’s Ball is to be relaunched by Amnesty International.  The charity comedy event, which first took place back in 1979, is to make a comeback, spearheaded once again by John Cleese.  The original featured, among others, Billy Connolly, Rowan Atkinson and various Pythons.  It is not known whether Billy intends to take part this time round.

Moggy Mayhem - Jul 06
Billy Connolly has had some luck over the years when it comes to films - he stole many a scene in the likes of Mrs Brown and Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events.  However it seems that the Scottish comedian has made a false move with his latest choice of role.  Billy stars alongside a fat CGI cat in kiddies comedy Garfield 2 this month and despite best efforts in his role as Lord Dargus the movie has not been popular with critics.  Oh well, maybe the Oscar’ll come next time Bill.

Billy’s gag gaff - Oct 04
Billy Connolly oversteps the mark with Bigley joke.
The Scots comedian has put his status as ’nation’s favourite’ at risk after a seriously misjudged joke during a recent stand up gig. Billy told a shocked audience that he wished that the Iraqi militants threatening to behead British hostage Ken Bigley would "just get on with it." But not even a stoney silence stopped the comedian from going on to ask "what is it with him and that Asian wife?"

An audience member who stood up and shouted "you’re talking about a man’s life Billy!" was told by the Big Yin to **** off. Billy and his management company have yet to comment whilst Bigley’s brother has told press that the family have more important things to worry about but with news reaching us that the hostage has indeed been killed we wonder if Billy’s popularity will be taking a turn for the worse.

Billy’s favourite film - August 04

The Motorcycle Diaries has struck a chord with Billy Connolly.

The Big Yin has been waxing lyrical about the film, which charts the early life of revolutionary Che Guevara. Billy is a big fan of Che and has a "Che Guevara flowerpot" and the same Norton motorcycle featured in the film. Such is Billy’s passion for The Motorcycle Diaries and all things Che journalists are starting to question why the comedian was not cast as Don Quixote.

Billy’s girl home - April 04
The young girl Billy Connolly helped find bone marrow donor has returned to Scotland.

Millie Forbes has returned home after a life saving bone marrow transplant which it has hoped will cure her leukaemia. The 21 year old was unable to find a bone marrow match in the UK after 335,000 were tested and her story struck a chord with comedian Billy who launched a worldwide search for a donor.
