Troubled star Doherty on a new high - Nov 28 2007
Pete Doherty has taken up meditation to cope with the stress of being on the road, his bandmate has said.
Babyshambles drummer Adam Ficek said the singer, who recently left rehab, was also into Chinese martial art Tai Chi.
He told Xfm: "All is very, very swell in Shambles land at the moment, as always.
"It's maybe just slightly less swell at certain times.
"You won't believe this, but Pete's actually meditating next door right now.
"I've got him into it. I do a lot of Tai Chi... Stranger things have happened in the land of Babyshambles."
Doherty, 28, recently apologised for taking heroin hours after he claimed to have kicked the habit.
He called it "a stupid action for which I feel only shame" and vowed to return to rehab.
The Babyshambles are currently on an arena tour.
Pete terrified about addiction? - Nov 12 2007
Pete Doherty is reportedly terrified he will die or go mad unless he tackles his drug demons.
In a diary extract revealed by The Sun, the Babyshambles rocker describes how drugs have ruined his life and his relationship with his four-year-old son.
"If I had not been chemically dependent my life would have been extremely manageable," the paper quoted his diary as saying.
"No jail, no rehab, normal functioning friendships and relationships and a lucrative, respectable career.
"I would probably own a house, a driving licence and a better reputation.
"If I don’t pack in drugs, particularly crack and heroin, I am likely to either die, go bankrupt, go mad or end up permanently institutionalised. I’m on a direct course for all four."
Last week Pete apologised for returning to drugs after spending time in rehab, saying it was a "stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame".
The frontman was captured on video injecting himself with heroin just hours after claiming he was drug-free.
Pete sorry for ’stupid, stupid’ drug use - Nov 8 2007
Pete Doherty has apologised for returning to drugs, saying it was a "stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame".
The Babyshambles frontman was captured on video injecting himself with heroin just hours after claiming he was drug-free.
Today (Wednesday) Pete’s record company issued a statement saying the singer was "looking to check himself back" into rehab.
The EMI statement said: "Peter Doherty would like to apologise to the medical staff, fans and well-wishers who have helped and encouraged his progress in fighting his addiction to heroin.
"His ongoing rehabilitation was a source of such pride to him that Peter and those closest to him thought that he was close to winning his personal battle with the drug.
"However, Peter sadly relapsed last week and is now looking to check himself back into a rehab clinic so that he can try to continue the hitherto excellent attempts he had made to break free of heroin.
"He realises that he has not only let himself down but has let down those who trusted and encouraged his efforts and he is filled with remorse for what he describes today as ’a stupid, stupid action for which I feel only shame’."
The video, shot on a mobile phone, showed Pete, 28, crouched on the floor, holding a needle in his mouth.
He stares into the camera before he "cooks up" the heroin on a spoon and fills the syringe.

A long and drawn out battle with drugs, an especially fiery relationship with Croydon’s favourite daughter and any number of bust ups and arrests has made the singer/songwriter one of Britain’s most recognisable faces (all be it a screwed up, sweaty zombie face).
Born on March 12 1979 in Hexham, Northumberland and living at various times in Liverpool, Shepherd’s Bush, Coventry, Dorset, Cyprus and Russia, Pete Doherty first came to the public’s attention as one half of the singing songwriting duo who fronted Britain’s must see band, The Libertines, who kick started the country’s new garage rock scene in 2002/03.
Debauched backstage shenanigans and frantic but brilliant shows saw The Libertines hit the headlines time and time again and their debut album, Up The Bracket, shot up the charts. However, the band’s success was to be short lived and numerous problems, between Pete and the rest of the band (specifically with best friend Carl Barat - the pair met when they became flatmates in Stoke Newington) saw them part ways but not before Pete hit the headlines for drink and drug problems which caused him to steal from his bandmates to feed his habit.
It was around this time that Lisa Moorish gave birth to Doherty’s child, Astile but, rather than settling down Pete carried on taking heroin, selling his ’My Drug Hell’ stories to any and every tabloid to pay for his out of control habit before being put in to several rehab clinics (including a Thai monastery), none of which have changed his ways.
Nonetheless he has managed to forge a career on his own, first working with Wolfman on For Lovers then forming Babyshambles, initially as a way to make money for.you guessed it! Now trying to get clean with the aid of Naltroxene after an arrest for assault, which resulted in some jail time as well as a curfew and constant supervision Pete is reportedly set to marry supermodel Kate Moss.
