Paris’ jail ’could be cut in half’ - May 11 2007
Paris Hilton may spend far less than the 45 days she has been sentenced to serve in jail for violating probation, authorities said.
The socialite could spend three weeks or less behind bars because of a state requirement that grants inmates time off for good behaviour and because of overcrowding in the system that has led to freeing some inmates before they complete their full terms, Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
"It’s possible that it could be 21 days, 23 days. It’s a complicated formula that the state sets down. It’s possible that she could do less time," he explained.
As for overcrowding, "our jail is bursting at the seams" and some women inmates have been released after serving only 10% of their sentence, he added.
Last year, Lost actress Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in jail for violating probation after her drunken driving arrest in Hawaii.
She was released within hours because of overcrowding.
Paris’s time will be determined when she is booked into the county system, Whitmore said, insisting that the heiress will not receive any favours because she is a celebrity.
"She’s going to be treated like any other low-level security risk."
A call to Paris’s publicist seeking comment was not immediately returned.
The 26-year-old was sentenced to jail last week for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
A judge ordered her to report to the women’s jail in Lynwood by June 5.
Paris’s ’corpse’ on display - May 10 2007
Paris Hilton’s naked "corpse" will be used to warn students about the dangers of underage drinking, gallery chiefs have said.
A graphic sculpture of a tiara-wearing, autopsied socialite with removable innards will go on display at the Capla Kesting Fine Art gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, from Friday - complete with a model of Paris’s pet Chihuahua, Tinkerbell.
The interactive public service announcement featuring the sculpture has been produced by artist Daniel Edwards, whose earlier works included a heavily pregnant Britney Spears giving birth, to warn US teenagers against underage drinking.
Paris was chosen because of her involvement in an alcohol-related reckless driving case last year, and last week the 26-year-old was ordered to report to a county jail by June 5 to serve a 45-day sentence for violating the terms of her probation.
The Paris Hilton Autopsy shows a nude Paris laid out with twisted body and opened abdominal cavity on a coroner’s table, while still clutching her mobile phone.
The tableau also shows Paris’s legs splayed in stirrups for postmortem pelvic examination and a "double abortion" of foetal twins discovered in her uterus.
Gallery director David Kesting said: "Paris’s internals, which include her small intestines, uterus and fetuses, are removable to assist teens with an empathetic view of drunk driving tragedy from the coroner’s perspective."
He said the Campaign to Rescue Women of Youth includes support material from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and counters "the disturbingly glamorised trend of Hollywood’s ’girls gone wild’."
Paris gets mixed reaction from party crowd - May 9 2007
Paris Hilton’s friends may be campaigning to keep her out of jail, but it seems not everyone wants the hotel heiress to go free.

She might be set to inherit an estimated $20m but that hasn’t stopped Paris turning her hand to a variety of ’jobs’ including TV star ? on The Simple Life, in which ex friend Nicole also starred ? movie star (with cameo appearances in Zoolander and The Cat in The Hat followed by a starring role in House of Wax), writer, albeit of her own autobiography, and model. These extra jobs are thought to have netted her around an extra $6m, a tidy sum which no doubt more than makes up for the ridicule Paris faces daily.
More recently Paris has get in on the music industry, founding Heiress Records on which she will produce her own debut record ? first single ’Screwed’ has already been leaked and, naturally, slated. She has also hit the headlines for becoming engaged to fellow heir Paris Latsis with whom she is regularly seen on the LA and New York party scene.
