An email party invite penned by Nicole Richie in which she pokes fun at binge drinking and anorexia has landed her in trouble after it found its way on to the internet.

In the invite to the Sunday night barbecue, Nicole encourages her friends to "celebrate our country by drinking massive amounts of beer" adding: "Take shots, pass out and wake up with our pants ripped open at the seams.

"Let’s glorify this day in your sluttiest tops and your tightest pair of tsubi jeans, even though we have no... clue what Memorial Day really means!!... There will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100lbs allowed in. Start starving yourself now. See you all then!!!" it adds.

Confirming the email was indeed written by Nicole, her rep defended the star in a statement to Us Weekly magazine, saying: "This invitation was sent via email to her friends who understand that she was responding in a joking manner to the constant untruths printed about her in the media.

"Her reference to Memorial Day was in no way meant to offend anyone but was simply an expression of her distaste for the current situation."

Nicole not in rehab, says rep - May 24 2007
Although celebrities seem to be entering rehab with alarming regularity these days, Nicole Richie’s rep has denied reports that the Simple Life star is back in a treatment centre.

"She is not in rehab," the rep told Us Weekly magazine, rubbishing reports that appeared in two US tabloids this week claiming that Nicole had suffered a relapse.

"She is at home in Glendale. Sobriety is an ongoing process but she is sober," added the rep who confirmed that that Nicole still visits a rehabilitation centre on a regular basis to see her therapist.

The 25-year-old was charged with a DUI in December after being pulled over for driving the wrong way down a California highway, for which she’s due in court on June 8 for a pre-trial hearing.

She received three years probation for a DUI conviction in 2002 and had her driving license suspended for one year. Nicole was then arrested just six months later for possession of heroin and driving with a suspended license.

After entering a drug-diversion program, she cited her parents’ divorce as contributing to her downward spiral.

"I was like a trash can - I took everything," she told Oprah Winfrey Show, adding: "I was definitely trying to mask hurt, abandonment. I had no idea I was feeling this way."

Nicole Richie has been diagnosed with hypoglycaemia, it has been announced.

A rep for The Simple Life star - who has struggled with health issues - has acknowledged that a recent hospital visit was as a result of the condition, which is otherwise known as low blood sugar.

"In her ongoing effort to focus on her well-being, Nicole has recently been diagnosed with hypoglycaemia," her spokesperson tells People magazine.

Nicole, who was apparently shooting her TV show when she visited the hospital, certainly appears to have the symptoms associated with the illness, according to the mag. It reports that the 25-year-old has been feeling faint and has to go and lie down in her trailer, often for "a good part of the day".

The rep added: "[She] is taking steps to manage it."

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting. So far her appearances on screen have been limited to bit parts in music videos and on MadTV, plus one frostily-received film role (in the Josh Stolberg film ‘Kids in America’.)
