Nicole jailed for driving on drugs - July 29 2007
Nicole Richie has been jailed for four days after pleading guilty in a court in Glendale, California to driving under the influence of drugs.

As she was sentenced, a judge told her she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a motorway.

Nicole, who got credit for time served, was also given three years’ probation.

Paris Hilton, her co-star on the reality TV show, The Simple Life, was recently released from jail after spending about 23 days in custody for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

The daughter of singer Lionel Richie smiled at the media as she arrived at court in the Los Angeles suburb of Glendale wearing a black shift dress and was accompanied by her boyfriend Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden.

The 25-year-old is rumoured to be three months pregnant by the rocker, although she has not commented on the reports.

Nicole’s trial delayed again - 11 July 2020
Nicole Richie’s trial has been delayed yet again, following her lawyer filing a motion stating that an important defence witness is unavailable.

"The trial will not happen Wednesday as scheduled," said Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. "Richie’s attorney filed a motion stating that their key witness, a drug expert, was unavailable for trial."

However, Los Angeles County Commissioner Steven Lubell denied the lawyer’s request for the new trial to begin on August 5th. Instead, he ordered both sides to attend court to argue why the star’s trial should be postponed again. But whatever happens, the hearing will delay the trial for at least another day.

Last December, the Simple Life star failed a breath test after being spotted driving the wrong way on a Los Angeles freeway. If convicted, Nicole - who has pleaded not guilty - faces a stay in jail.

Meanwhile, the star, who does not have to attend the trial, is said to be in Calgary, Canada, to watch boyfriend Joel Madden’s band Good Charlotte.

Nicole Richie is apparently expecting her first child, according to reports in the US.

A source told entertainment website TMZ that Nicole and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, were expecting a baby in January.

The Simple Life star is also said to be planning to marry Joel this summer. However, a spokesman for Nicole was staying tight lipped, merely saying "we have nothing to report".

Her dad Lionel Richie also confessed he had no idea whether his daughter was expecting.

"Nicole is one of those wonderful people that will not tell her father until I keep going, ’Come on Nic. I’m your father. What’s going on?’" he told reporters. "She’ll say ’Nothing dad.’ So right now, she’s in nothing mode. I don’t know. She’ll let me know about it at the last minute. I’m just hoping it doesn’t cost me a fortune!"

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting.
