Nicole Richie and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, have apparently learned that they’ll be welcoming a son this winter.

The pregnant 25-year-old was told about the gender of her baby during an ultrasound at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in LA, and the couple have been given a due date of December 30 for their first child.

Friends told In Touch Weekly that Nicole was hoping for a girl, but the Simple Life star was very happy to get the news 16 weeks into her pregnancy.

"She’s having fun planning for the baby - shopping, picking out names and designing a nursery," said the friend.

While the couple are hugely excited, they are also nervous about becoming parents - and Nicole still has to serve her four days in jail.

"She is trying her best to keep a positive state of mind because she thinks negativity will affect the baby. She wants to have a good pregnancy," the friend added.

And Nicole has said in an interview that she is a changed person for the sake of her unborn child.

"I would really want to be someone my child would look up to," the socialite said on Good Morning America.

Nicole Richie is looking forward to starting "fresh" after carrying out her four-day jail sentence.

The 25-year-old pleaded guilty last week to driving under the influence of drugs. She must complete her jail time by September 28.

The Simple Life star told UK OK! magazine: "It was a fair, standard sentence. I expected that."

The socialite, whose friend and co-star Paris Hilton also recently served time in jail, added she is feeling "healthy and happy" and her life "is clearly going to slow down".

"I will be really happy once I have done my jail time," she explained. "I can start fresh."

She had previously told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer in an interview due to be aired this week: "I have a responsibility and it’s something that I did wrong, and if I could personally apologise to every single person that has lost a loved one from drunk driving, I would.

"And unfortunately I can’t, but this is my way of paying my dues and taking responsibility and being an adult."

Nicole also confirmed that she is almost four months’ pregnant following months of rumours, and that her boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, is the father.

"Yes I am. We are," the TV star told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer in an interview to be aired this week. "I’m almost four months." Nicole’s boyfriend, Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden, is the father.

The 25-year-old star of The Simple Life and Paris Hilton pal also talked to Sawyer about her guilty plea last week for driving under the influence and resulting four-day jail sentence.

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting.
