Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden apparently proposed to the Simple Life star - who is expecting the couple’s baby - last week, reports People.com.

After a late night performance with his band in Arlington, Virginia, the singer was walking offstage when Hot 99.5 morning show DJ Kane announced to the crowd: "He got engaged yesterday. Congratulations, Joel!"

"We heard this morning," Kane told People following Good Charlotte’s 40-minute set, saying he had heard the news from "good sources".

The DJ said he had offered his congratulations to Joel earlier in the night.

"He said, ’Thank you so much’," recalled Kane.

"They’re very excited about the baby and the wedding. They want to keep their personal life personal," he added.

Although Nicole wasn’t spotted at the gig, she and her beau were seen touring Washington DC earlier in the day, where they had a late lunch and popped into upmarket baby boutique Dawn Price Baby.

Could Nicole Richie soon be saying ’Yes’?

Joel Madden appeared to have a surprise in store for his pregnant girlfriend when he appeared live on a TV show on Thursday morning, before an excited presenter blurted it out.

The Good Charlotte frontman, who is currently in New York with Nicole, was on ABC’s Live With Regis and Kelly with his band and the subject soon turned to his personal life with Nicole and their baby.

"You’re going to present her, maybe, with - did I hear the right thing, or should I not even talk about this?" said presenter Regis Philbin.

"Uh, what?" deadpanned Joel.

"A little ring, or something," said the presenter.

"I was hoping it would be a surprise, but now," Joel answered.

Joel’s reaction quickly forced the presenter to spin on his heel and ask the frontman’s identical twin - and the band’s lead guitarist - Benji, whom he was dating.

But the cat was out of the bag. However, Joel also revealed that he was looking forward to being a dad, admitting that he is reading guidebooks like What To Expect When You’re Expecting, The Expectant Father and Baby Signs.

Nicole Richie wants to serve her time for driving under the influence of drugs in the Los Angeles County jail.

The reality TV star’s lawyer contacted the county Sheriff’s Department earlier this week and indicated the pregnant 25-year-old wanted to serve her four-day sentence in county lockup rather than a city jail, sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Whitmore said he had no additional details, including when Nicole might surrender to begin the sentence. She must complete it by September 28.

At the county jail, inmates often service only a fraction of their sentence for a variety of reasons, including overcrowding and good behaviour.

The county has a special women’s-only facility in Lynwood. It is the same place where the star’s friend Paris Hilton recently completed a 23-day stay for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Nicole was arrested in December for driving the wrong way on a freeway in Burbank.

The daughter of Lionel Richie, who confirmed earlier this week that she is nearly four months pregnant, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanour charge in a deal with prosecutors that helped her avoid a potential year in jail on her second DUI conviction. She had an alcohol-related conviction in 2003.

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting. So far her appearances on screen have been limited to bit parts in music videos and on MadTV, plus one frostily-received film role (in the Josh Stolberg film ‘Kids in America’.)
