Nicole Richie will donate gifts she received at her baby shower on Sunday to charity.

The expectant mum and her boyfriend Joel Madden will donate baby gifts to 100 expectant families in need through the newly-formed Richie Madden Foundation, reports People.com.

Nicole had a Wizard Of Oz-themed shower in Beverly Hills, hosted by her mum Brenda and attended by around 90 pals including Paris Hilton.

While many friends at the shower donated gifts to the charity, they also brought pressies for Nicole and Joel to keep - including one children’s book from every guest to help build the baby’s library.

And while Nicole, who is due to give birth in January, has not revealed whether she’s having a boy or a girl, some of the gifts, which included a pair of $50 baby sneakers for a boy, may have offered a clue.

"They’re so excited," says a friend. "They can’t wait to meet their little baby."

Nicole ’signs up to alcohol programme’ - Oct 2 2007
Nicole Richie has reportedly enrolled in an alcohol education programme, to help get back behind the wheel.

According to People.com, The Simple Life star who’s six months pregnant, has signed up for an 18-month anti-drinking driver course, known as the SB 38 Alcohol Programme - apparently for people who have been convicted of DUI on more than one occasion within a seven-year period.

The website claims to have obtained papers filed with the Superior Court of California and says Nicole may have to take part in 52 hours of group counselling, face-to-face interviews twice a week and 12 hours of alcohol education.

Only last year, the 26-year-old was booked for driving under the influence after being arrested for driving the wrong way down Southern California’s Highway 134.

This July she was sentenced to four days in jail, but served just 82 minutes. She was also fined and forced to sign up for the driving rehab course because of a previous DUI conviction in 2003.

Joel Madden has reportedly confirmed he fully intends to marry pregnant girlfriend Nicole Richie - he just doesn’t know when.

"Obviously, marriage is in our future," the Good Charlotte frontman told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest on his radio show.

"I don’t know when or where or how, but right now our priority is our family and is the baby."

The 28-year-old singer added: "That’s all we’ve been thinking about. We are in love and are really happy."

Meanwhile, Joel couldn’t contain his enthusiasm about his impending fatherhood.

"I’m excited. We are all really excited about it," he said. "It’s the best thing that has ever happened to us. It’s awesome."

And the celebrity couple are already planning for B-day with a nursery, although they still don’t know whether the baby is a boy or a girl.

"I already got a stroller and a playpen," he said.

"We don’t even know [about the sex]. We’re waiting. So right now it’s an it. Which sounds wrong. We call it the baby. When we talk to it, it’s a you," he added.

Biography

Nicole Richie was born on September 21, 2020 in Berkeley, California. She was informally adopted by Lionel Richie and his wife, Brenda Harvey-Richie in 1984, and formally adopted into the family six years later (her biological father is assumed to be Richie’s former drummer, and her mother a backstage tour assistant). Her godfather is Michael Jackson.
The subsequent split between Lionel and Brenda led to Nicole descending into drug abuse and a string of arrests. She eventually admitted her dependency and, in 2003, she was admitted into a drug rehabilitation unit.

Around the same time, Nicole was in the limelight on the series that would propel her into the mainstream, ‘The Simple Life’, co-starring with Paris Hilton. The future of the show, which was built on the idea of their close friendship, was put in jeopardy when the pair fell out in 2005. The split was rumored to be caused by Richie showing a copy of Hilton’s ‘One Night In Paris’ sex tape at a social gathering, or her jealousy of Hilton’s rising public profile. In any case, the split was prolonged and dramatic, with tracks on Hilton’s debut album being dedicated to admonishing their former friendship. Although the show continued, the pair stipulated that they did not want to appear on screen together.

She is currently dating American reality TV star and family friend Brody Jenner.
A proportion of her media profile is given over to speculation surrounding her body weight. Despite repeated assertions that she does not struggle with an eating disorder and that she is “naturally skinny”, she finally admitted herself into a private facility for the treatment of Bulimia on October 26.

Keen to prove that she is more than a media curiosity, she is currently working to release her debut album and is trying to break into acting. So far her appearances on screen have been limited to bit parts in music videos and on MadTV, plus one frostily-received film role (in the Josh Stolberg film ‘Kids in America’.)
