Nicole Richie is putting on weight and according to friends, "is in a good place".

The star revealed about a month ago that she was seeking treatment for her weight issues and according to sources who talked to People magazine, it’s working.

"She has [put on] at least five pounds," says one. "She wants to prove she’s trying to change."

The socialite has a new brunette hairdo and is getting ready to shoot the new series of reality show The Simple Life with reunited best friends Paris Hilton.

She has also got rid of some of her long-time friends who were apparently damaging her new improved psyche, like stylist Rachel Zoe.

Paris admits that: "she looks better than she’s ever looked. I love it." And another pal who recently spoke to her reveals: "She’s doing great. She’s taking care of herself and she’s in a good place."

That was illustrated by a much-praised appearance at last week’s American Music Awards, wearing a vintage Christian Dior frock.

Nicole denies surgery - Nov 16 2006
Nicole Richie has denied the rumours that she underwent gastric bypass surgery and then had it reversed after losing too much weight.

The gossip story surfaced following a blind item in The New York Post, which mentioned a "Hollywood starlet" getting the procedure and then having it undone.

But the undoubtedly mega-thin star’s publicist says that the story is "ridiculous". They add: "It is not Nicole. There are tons of ’Hollywood starlets’."

Nicole’s weight or lack of it has come under scrutiny of late, with the star finally checking into a clinic to undergo treatment to analyse why she is unable to add meat to her 90lb frame.

However, it looks as though she is back on track and is preparing to shoot a new series of reality show The Simple Life alongside reunited best friend Paris Hilton.

A spokesman for the show tells New York’s Daily News: "Nicole has informed us she’s ready to work and we’re looking at a calendar to see what works best for all."

Nicole Richie has spoken out about seeking help for her eating issues.

"I’m focusing on my health right now and getting the help I need, like anyone else would," she said.

The mega-thin star frequently graces the tabloid pages looking thin and under-nourished and she finally decided to do something about it.

She has not admitted that she has an eating disorder per se, rather "weight issues".

Indeed, People magazine quotes a source as saying the twenty-five-year-old is sick and tired of people thinking she doesn’t eat, "because she does".

Just a couple of days after checking into an out-patient programme, she was spotted at Mastro’s restaurant in Beverly Hills, where she tucked into a steak.

As for her treatment, her spokesperson says that she is "working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition."

She needs to get better because she has a raft of work waiting for her. E! is anxious to get to work on the new series of The Simple Life (especially now she and Paris Hilton are friends again) and the Fox network is developing a sitcom based on her life.
