Naomi wins court case against Mirror - 27/03/01
Streatham born Naomi Campbell has won her ground-breaking privacy case against the Mirror newspaper. Last year they published a photograph of her leaving a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, and she subsequently sued the paper for breach of confidence and/or unlawful invasion of privacy.
The judge ruled that she had succeeded in establishing breach of confidentiality and breach of the Data Protection Act. Mirror Group argued that there was no absolute law of privacy in this country and that her case in breach of confidence "did not get off the ground".
During the case the editor of the paper said of Naomi Campbell, "I have rarely encountered a celebrity who has so voraciously invaded her own privacy." He criticised her stating to the press two years ago that she never used drugs, when she actually had a serious drugs problem.
Tabloid calls Naomi a drug smuggler - 18/02/02
The News of the World is claiming that Naomi Campbell has been smuggling drugs for years. The model’s former PA Rebecca White told the paper that Naomi regularly transported cocaine through Heathrow Airport. "She spent up to ?1,500 a week on drugs," White revealed to the Sunday newspaper. "She referred to it as ’my little problem’. But it was a huge problem." The Streatham supe could face a Scotland Yard investigation over these claims that she smuggled cocaine on flights abroad.
Naomi admits she tooks drugs - 12/02/02
Naomi Campbell has jetted back into London for a legal showdown with The Mirror newspaper. The 31-year-old Streatham supermodel is sueing the paper for breach of confidence and/or unlawful invasion of privacy after it published a photograph of her leaving a Narcotics Anonymous meeting a year ago. The newspaper said Naomi had been receiving regular counselling in a "courageous bid to beat her addiction to drink and drugs". The model flew in from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been at London’s High Court. She had been in Rio for the annual carnival celebrations and spent last week learning the samba at a Portela dancing school. But she cancelled a scheduled appearance in today’s big Rio parade to make her return to Britain.
Naomi admitted in court on Monday that she had illegally used drugs but says the Mirror newspaper invaded her privacy and breached her confidence when it published the photo last year, alongside an article describing how she had sought counselling for a drug problem. She admitted she’d used illegal drugs and had then sought treatment. "I knew that it was wrong and had damaged me and I decided to try and sort myself out," she told the court. She also said she felt "shocked, angry, betrayed and violated" by the article, headlined: "Naomi: I am a drug addict."
Campbell’s lawyer, Andrew Caldecott, said the model had attended meetings of Narcotics Anonymous, often on a daily basis amd that her attendance "was a clearly private activity deserving of privacy." The newspaper’s publisher, MGN Limited, denies wrongdoing. The Mirror’s lawyer, Desmond Browne, said the newspaper only revealed the truth about Campbell’s drug use, which she had denied publicly. "To the world at large, Miss Campbell sacrificed her right to anonymity by using illegal drugs and claiming she was drug free," he said.
Naomi popstar wannabe-again! -26/04/01
Naomi’s previous attempt at pop was so dismal you would have thought it would make her never want to pick up a mike, well that’s wishful thinking, as that is exactly what she will be doing.

She was raised by her grandparents since her mother, the ambitious Valerie, was making her way around the world with an exotic dance troupe. At 13, precocious Naomi started at the Italia Conti stage school. Two years later she was ’discovered’ in Covent Garden by a modelling scout.
Recently, she has been seeking anger therapy - her American agency fired her on the grounds that she was ’unbearable’ and published the following statement: ’No amount of money or prestige could further justify the abuse she has imposed on our staff and clients.’ She recently pleaded guilty to assaulting her assistant with the mobile phone she normally keeps clamped to her ear. Naomi had a top 10 hit with Babywoman in Japan and has a reputation for being always late.
She has been romanced by a string of men including Mike Tyson, Robert De Niro, Joaquin Cortes and was rumoured to have had a fling with Joseph Fiennes. She is currently dating Italian millionaire Flavio Briatore.
As well as modelling and a stab at a music career she has also penned a novel entitled Swan (1995) and has appeared in the film Pret-a-Porter, she also appeared in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous and once was a pupil in Grange Hill. Naomi has also just launched her own perfume. She also has an apartment in Chelsea. (written 2001)
