Nadine’s dad Niall, who spent two months with the rest of the family in LA recently, said Nadine was in "shock" over Jesse, the Sun reports.

But Niall said Nadine had spoken to the Desperate Housewives star every day since he got banned from the Mondrian Hotel in LA for drunken behaviour.

"Nadine is in total shock," Niall reportedly told Reveal.

"She never saw this coming and neither did we. We saw Jesse regularly when we were in the US, and we often thought he drank less than us.

"Maybe he was trying to hide the fact that he had a problem from the people he cares about.

"She is devastated this has happened and blames herself that she didn’t see the warning signs.

"They are staying together. She has been on the phone to Jesse for hours every day since he went into rehab to try and give him support.

"She will be there for him while he goes through the programme and will be there when he comes out," he added.

Jesse Metcalfe has revealed he fell for Nadine Coyle because she wouldn’t fall for cheesy one-liners.

The Desperate Housewives star was approached by the Girls Aloud singer in a bar in March 2006 and they have been enjoying a transatlantic relationship ever since.

"Nadine and I met in Australia in a bar. She actually came up to our group," Jesse told the February edition of Loaded magazine.

"I could tell straight off that she wasn’t the type to eat up game - to fall for lines. So I wasn’t really spitting much game. I was just trying to play it cool. It seems like it worked."

The key to their success seems to be the fact Nadine is an independent woman.

Jesse explained: "I like a confident girl, one who knows her mind and who has something going on in her life. That creates a little separation, which is healthy for a relationship.

"You don’t want a girl who is going to glue onto your life and be too needy. I like a girl who is independent."

In the interview, Jesse also claimed to have had just three "official" girlfriends.

Although the TV hunk did confess: "Can I give you a ballpark? I’ve had a lot of in-betweens."

Desperate Housewives hunk Jesse Metcalfe is reportedly whisking his pretty girlfriend Nadine Coyle away for Christmas - sparking rumours that he might pop the question.

The Girls Aloud crooner and the actor have a luxury break booked in a Dubai resort and the 20-year-old is unaware that Jesse may be hiding a ring in his luggage, reports The People.

The couple recently hit the headlines after they reportedly briefly split up and Nadine has said how hard it is having a transatlantic relationship.

"He wants to make it up to Nadine, so he’s booked a five-star hotel and has made sure they can spend some quality time together, just the two of them," a source told The People.

Dubai is where Nadine’s bandmate Cheryl Tweedy got engaged to Ashley Cole after a romantic camel ride.

The source added: "Nadine has told Jesse about Ashley’s proposal and how perfect it was. Now he’s planning something similar."
