But the camp cook said he wished the pair well, adding: "I liked both of them. Marc tried to make everyone feel comfortable in camp. Everyone had moments of doubt and homesickness. He was really charming. And Cerys is a one-off. She is very special and generous. She is just beautiful."
Marc ’devastated’ by fallout - Nov 23 2007
Former EastEnder turned jungle romeo Marc Bannerman has said he is "absolutely devastated" by the fallout from his romance with singer Cerys Matthews.
The pair flirted despite Marc having a long-term partner.
"I think the situation between Cerys and myself was getting... nothing happened between the two of us at all but it was just getting to the situation where it was becoming more than just friends," he said on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.
"I felt like I was betraying my partner - and I was. Not in the overtly physical sense but mentally."
His girlfriend of two-and-a-half years, actress Sarah Matravers, flew out to Australia to confront him but left before he was evicted.
Marc said: "All I know is she wasn’t there to meet me when I came out of the jungle, so that told me a lot. I spoke to her a little while ago and she’s hurt. I’ve hurt her badly.
"Of course I apologised. I can’t apologise enough. I’ve had texts from friends saying ’You didn’t do anything wrong, you just flirted’, but none of that matters when you’ve hurt someone, does it?"
And he added: "I’m glad that I’ve been voted out now because it would have been awful for me to put Sarah through a moment more despair than I already have."
Back in camp, Cerys adjusted to life without him.
"I’m very shocked that Marc’s gone because he was such a sweetheart. I’m really sad to see him go," she said.
Marc: I’m in big trouble - Nov 22 2007
In an interview immediately after he left the I’m A Celebrity jungle, camp flirt Marc Bannerman said he was in "big trouble" and would have to apologise to girlfriend Sarah Matravers, who he admitted he had embarrassed.
The star said he had missed his family, friends and Sarah the most while he was in the jungle and stressed that nothing had happened with singer Cerys Matthews, despite the pair getting cosy while he was on the show.
He said: "Nothing is going on, we just got on fantastically, we had a nice time together and we bonded really quickly, I think she is a fantastic girl."
He then asked Ant and Dec: "I’m in big trouble aren’t I, what’s happening?" before they showed him a clip of him and Cerys together in the camp.
Marc tried, but struggled, to explain what had happened between them.
He said: "It’s a really difficult thing. It’s a really strange scenario. If you meet someone that you really get on well with and gel with, it’s really difficult not to have just a bit, a little bit, a kind of, you know it’s just difficult not to have a little bit, you know..."
The actor admitted that he had connected with Cerys on a "very deep" level, which was something he had not expected.
When he was told his girlfriend had been in Australia but had now returned to the UK, he said he wanted to get back to London straightaway so that they could talk face to face.
