Rehab Changed My Life - July 10 2007
Hollywood wild child Lindsay Lohan says rehab has changed her life.
The actress claims she now relies on meditation, "serenity prayers" and Machiavelli to help her through troubled times.
Lindsay, 21, spoke about her treatment in an interview with Tatler magazine. She first went to a Californian clinic in January after admitting to alcohol problems. In May, she crashed her Mercedes in
"It changed my life," she said. "I didn’t have a good grip on it and I needed to get my s*** together. I was going out too much and I had too much pressure on my shoulders. I was not that happy and I needed to go to that place to be happy.
"There were therapy classes to talk about relationships and family issues and to hear other people’s stories too. They teach you to give to other people and I walked away with the benefit of that.
"If I get stressed out I say a serenity prayer. I meditate too."
The Mean Girls star now keeps a copy of Machiavelli’s The Prince, written in 1513, with her to use as a self-help guide. "I was going out with someone and they said I should read Machiavelli and I was like, ’Nah’, and then I was, ’Ok, I’ll read it’, and now it is always with me," she explained.
The interview is in the August issue of Tatler, out Thursday.
Lindsay celebrates 21st in rehab - July 3 2007
She may have turned 21 on Monday, but there was no big birthday bash for Lindsay Lohan, currently undergoing a stint in rehab at the Promises centre in Los Angeles.
Instead of partying the night away with friends at a Las Vegas nightclub as planned, Li-Lo was joined by her mum and siblings for what has been described as a quiet family celebration.
Back in May, the star told chat show host Ellen DeGeneres: "I’m going to milk it because it’s a big birthday."
However, the Mean Girls actress and serial partygoer appears to have turned over a new leaf, after being spotted out a couple of days before her birthday, looking fit and well at the swanky Chateau Marmont LA hotel drinking tea, diet coke and water.
"She’s turned things around at least for now," said an observer. "She wasn’t really noticed at all and was in a good mood."
Lindsay checked into Promises last month following her arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after crashing her Mercedes-Benz on Sunset Boulevard.
