Leona Lewis
- Profession: X Factor Winner
- Place/Date of Birth: Islington, London, 03 April 2020
The X Factor winner, who has just rocketed to No 1 in the charts with her new single Bleeding Love, will turn on the lights in a special ceremony on November 7.
Thousands are expected to come to see the star at the event on the capital’s most famous shopping street, where she is also due to perform her latest track for the crowds.
This year’s lights and decorations also mark the release of Disney’s family film Enchanted and will see the street transformed into a "dazzling canopy of magic", organisers say.
The film is about a princess who emerges straight from a Disney classic into the modern day reality of New York.
Irish crooners Westlife and the West End cast of Mary Poppins are also set to perform at the ceremony.
The New West End Company, which aims to ensure the area retains its place as a top shopping destination, is behind the event and organises the street decorations.
Jace Tyrell, from the company, said: "For nine weeks the dazzling canopy of chandeliers will stretch suspended above the heads of shoppers as they zip in and out of the 300 shops lining Oxford Street."
All the lights used are LED bulbs, which use 75% less energy, and are also carbon offset to ensure they do not damage the environment.

"I really like Kate Nash. I’m so proud to be from London and it’s wonderful to see her doing so well.

"I feel so privileged to come back and have so many people coming to my showcase."
It’s been almost a year since the X Factor winner’s debut single, A Moment Like This, was released, smashing records.
The singer’s new single, Bleeding Love, is out on October 22 and will be followed by an album.

However, Leona was immediatly noticed by judges when she auditioned for the third series of The X Factor and soon found herself one of Simon Cowell’s under-25s group. Comparisons with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston were forthcoming as Leona garnered unprecedented praise as she proved from the very beginning to be head and shoulders above the rest of the contestants. She was crowned the X Factor winner with 60% of the votes in the final showdown against fellow under-25 Ray Quinn.
Leona released her debut single, A Moment Like This in the week prior to Christmas, ensuring her a festive number one. Record stores reported unprecedented sales, with one chain selling a hundred copies of the single a minute. The track also knocked Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy of of the year’s number one download spot.
Accoding to the press Whitney Houston has offered to mentor Leona and she is set to fly out to the US to sign a multi-million pound deal with Arista Records.
