Leona's New Year bash - Dec 16 2007
Leona Lewis and her boyfriend Lou Al-Chamaa will apparently spend New Year in the lap of luxury on a private beach in the Caribbean - but unfortunately so will some of her bosses at Sony BMG.

The X Factor winner - who is currently No 1 in the charts with her debut album and single Bleeding Love - has been given the treat by her music bosses, but it might not be quite as private as the she hopes.

A friend told The Sun: "It's all expenses paid, in a private cabin in one of the world's most beautiful locations.

"But I'm not sure this is quite the perfect break for a young couple."

Leona insisted she wanted to spend Christmas Day with her family in Hackney.

"She'll fly out on Boxing Day," the friend added. "All this showbiz stuff still feels strange to Leona and Lou."

Leona makes it six in a row - Dec 3 2007

X Factor winner Leona Lewis has extended her reign at the top of both the singles and album charts.

The 22-year-old’s debut song Bleeding Love clocked up a sixth week at No 1 in the singles chart, while her album Spirit, the UK’s fastest selling debut album of all time, remained No 1 for the third week in a row.

The 2005 X Factor winner Shayne Ward stormed into the album top 10, landing the No 2 slot with Breathless, and forcing Westlife’s Back Home into third place, one ahead of Kylie Minogue’s new entry, X.

The only new entry in the singles chart was Elvis Presley’s classic American Trilogy, while two perennial festive favourites showed the public is getting into the Christmas spirit already.

Mariah Carey’s classic All I Want For Christmas Is You moved up 23 places to 23, while the Pogues’ Fairytale of New York sneaked up nearly 50 places to 33.

Russell Watson’s album Outside In entered the chart at 14, a month after the tenor was released from hospital following brain surgery.

Leona Lewis holds onto the top spot - Nov 12 2007

X-Factor winner Leona Lewis is celebrating the biggest selling song of the year after holding on to the top spot in the UK singles chart.

The 22-year-old’s hit, Bleeding Love, again saw off competition from veteran boy band Take That to remain at number one for a third week.

It is the second time Leona has released the biggest selling single of the year - in 2006 her single A Moment Like This claimed the title after becoming Christmas number one.

Bleeding Love sold 111,978 copies over the last seven days - 72,398 more than Take That’s single Rule The World, which remains in second spot.

Westlife’s single Home slipped from third to fifth, with rap record Apologise, by Timbaland, and Mark Ronson’s reworking of Valerie both moving up to third and fourth place respectively.

Sugababes’ former number one hit About You Now remains at six, followed by Craig Davis’s Hot Stuff (Let’s Dance) which soared 12 places to seventh.

Britney Spears’ Gimme More slipped a place to eight, while No One, by Alicia Keys, and the Freemasons’ Uninvited complete the top ten.

In the album charts, Westlife’s new release, Back Home, went straight in a number one with legendary 70s rockers The Eagles slipping to second place with Long Road out of Eden.

Whitney Houston’s The Ultimate Collection climbed two spots to three, while McFly’s Greatest Hits, a new entry, and Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss complete the top five.

Biography

Leona Louise Lewis was born in Islington, London on April 3 1985 to Guyanese father Joe and half-Welsh mother, Marie.  She grew up in Highbury and won the nearby Hakney Empire’s Lady D talent contest at just thirteen.  Talented in acting and dancing as well as singing she attended the Sylvia Young stage school as well as the vocational BRIT School.  However, despite recording her own album (which was never released) Leona worked as a Pizza Hut waitress and chiropodist’s receptionist until late 2006.

However, Leona was immediatly noticed by judges when she auditioned for the third series of The X Factor and soon found herself one of Simon Cowell’s under-25s group.  Comparisons with Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston were forthcoming as Leona garnered unprecedented praise as she proved from the very beginning to be head and shoulders above the rest of the contestants.  She was crowned the X Factor winner with 60% of the votes in the final showdown against fellow under-25 Ray Quinn.

Leona released her debut single, A Moment Like This in the week prior to Christmas, ensuring her a festive number one.  Record stores reported unprecedented sales, with one chain selling a hundred copies of the single a minute.  The track also knocked Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy of of the year’s number one download spot.

Accoding to the press Whitney Houston has offered to mentor Leona and she is set to fly out to the US to sign a multi-million pound deal with Arista Records.
