But Meisseiller would not comment on whether James would receive similar preferential tax treatment as Hallyday. "That’s a private matter," he said.
Each Swiss canton (state) sets its own tax rates, and can cut special deals with wealthy foreigners that allow them to pay only a fraction of what they would have to pay elsewhere.
The Daily Mirror reported last year that Blunt, a former tank commander in the British army, earned £5million with his 11-time platinum album Back To Bedlam, which includes the hit You’re Beautiful.
James heads Brit Grammy hopes - Dec 7 2006
Britain will be well represented at next February’s Grammy Awards, following the announcement of the nominations this morning at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Hollywood.
James Blunt scooped six nominations, including Best New Artist and the uber-prestigious Record Of The Year for You’re Beautiful. He will be competing against Corinne Bailey Rae in the latter category, for her hit Put Your Records On.
Shock nominee Imogen Heap will also be vying for Best New Artist. The posh singer/songwriter used to be member of Frou Frou, but has since struck out on her own. Thanks to a dash of indie cred after her appearance on the soundtrack of the movies Garden State and The Last Kiss, she’s the long shot.
Meanwhile, The Arctic Monkeys will attempt to win Best Alternative Album.
James, as well as Corinne Bailey Rae and other American success story K.T. Tunstall lined up alongside Justin Timberlake and Mary J. Blige amongst others to read out the nominations in front of a packed crowd in Los Angeles.
Mary J. was the big winner of the day, scoring the most nods with eight, including Song Of The Year and Best R’n’B Album for the multoi-platinum Breakthrough.
The award ceremony will take place live from Hollywood next year, on February 11th. For a full list of the nominees, go to: www.grammy.com

Within a year of leaving the army he had hooked up with songwriter Linda Perry, who signed James to her Custard record label. He recorded an album in LA whilst living in a house owned by Carrie Fisher and changed his name to Blunt. His debut single, High, however failed to find its way in to the Top 100 in the UK. His second single Wiseman peaked at Number 44. Undeterred he released You’re Beautiful, which climbed from a debut place at Number 12 to Number 1. This helped to send his album, Back to Bedlam to the album chart top spot. He followed his success by not only rereleasing his first two singles but releasing Goodbye My Lover, which has become a funeral favourite.
Blunt has become something of a figure of fun and several parodies of his songs have been performed while the NME named Back to Bedlam as Worst Album in their polls. However, he has received a number of accolades for his debut and is dating supermodel Petra Nemcova. So we don’t suppose he minds too much what a bunch of journalists have to say. So James, your songs are pretty pants...and those teeth!
