Instead, the 5ft 4in TV presenter would rather be doing martial arts - she’s a black belt in karate and kickboxing.

"Just taking part in this is the best thing," she said. "I’m not looking to set any particular time. I don’t have a competitive streak when it comes to running. Perhaps if it was kickboxing then things would be different, but I’m not looking to take up running in the near future."

And the Scottish single mum said she hopes her running will be an example for Britain’s children.

"There’s so much childhood obesity these days and kids on their PlayStations that it’s really important to get them active," she said.

Gail plans to adopt - Dec 14 2006
TV presenter Gail Porter has revealed she’s planning to adopt a child with special needs.

The star, who has a four-year-old daughter Honey with ex-hubby Dan Hipgrave, was inspired by her charity work with handicapped children.

"I’m adopting a child between five and seven with special needs," she told the Daily Express.

"There are so many children of this age in the UK who need adopting by loving families but people want babies without problems.

"I’ve spent a lot of time working with disabled children and am on the waiting list to adopt. I’ve been told the process can take up to two years but we’re prepared to wait."

Gail insisted she wouldn’t follow in the footsteps of many celebs by going abroad to adopt.

"I don’t want to do what Madonna and Angelina Jolie have done. Children in developing countries don’t need whisking away to Britain, they need financial support over there," she said.

Gail, who lost her blonde locks when she suffered from alopecia last year, said her daughter was keen to have a sibling.

"She’s been great with the kids we’ve visited and I know she’ll be wonderful with the child I adopt," she told the paper.

Gail points the finger - Nov 2006
From Gail Porter’s point of view it’s clear who is to blame for her alopecia, the condition which caused the loss of all of her bodyhair. Court documents regarding their ongoing divorce, published last month, quote Porter as saying “I suffer from stress and depression aggravated by Dan’s behaviour”, in reference to her rockstar ex-partner Dan Hipgrave.

Earlier Hipgrave had claimed that the marriage began falling apart following the birth of their daughter, Honey, in 2002. Objecting to paying the costs of the divorce proceedings he said “I can’t afford to pay her costs and believe the particulars not to be true”.

Despite battling with alopecia for two years, there are signs that Porter’s hair is beginning to grow back.

Gail splits from hubby - Nov 04
Gail Porter has split with husband Dan Hipgrave. When the bubbly TV presenter and glamour girl got hitched to musician Dan it came as a bit of a shock for many of us but as time went on it became increasingly clear that the pair were made for each other as they shied away from the limelight to raise their baby daughter. However, it seems that all was not as rosy as we thought in the Hipgrave home as reports reach us that Gail and Dan have gone their separate ways. The pair have yet to comment on the split.

Biography

Gail Porter was born in Edinburgh in 1971. After leaving school, she got her first job working at B&Q, where she had to wear a badge saying "Gail. Happy to help!" At the age of 18 she enrolled on an HND at Film School after which she got a job as a runner for a video production company in Edinburgh. "I was treated like a nobody," Gail remembers. "I did everything from making teas and coffees to ordering pizzas and cleaning the railings outside the offices. Once they made me do it with a toothbrush. It was horrible!"

After four years of working behind the scenes she took the plunge and produced her own showreel, interviewing random members of the public on Edinburgh’s Prince Street. This led to her first job in front of the camera as the presenter of a children’s TV show, which in turn landed her the job as presenter of Fully Booked.

She handed in her resignation after doing her famous photo shoot for mens’ magazine GQ, in which she bared all. She has since fronted Electric Circus on Live and Kicking and filled in for Melinda Messenger on Melinda’s Big Night In. She is currently doing The Movie Chart Show on Channel 5. Still, she is best known for having her naked image projected on to the side of the Houses of Parliament about two years ago by adoring fans.

Gail lived in Soho for a while, but now lives in Camden with Toploader husband Dan Hipgrave, and baby Honey. You can nearly always spot them pushing the buggy about on Primrose Hill.
