Corinne becomes ambassador - Sept 13 2007
Corinne Bailey Rae has become ambassador for humanitarian charity CORD.
The 28-year-old songstress said she was delighted to be involved in promoting CORD's role working with refugees and people affected by conflict around the world.
She said: "People need to be made more aware of the vital job that CORD is doing in some of the most difficult places with those who have had to flee from war and violence, often losing everything - their families, their homes and their belongings.
"Many are young people, a large number are orphans, and CORD helps them to get back on their feet, to build a new life, which is why I want to lend them my support in any way I can."
The singer - who is currently working on her new album - will headline the Peace One Day concert at London's Royal Albert Hall on September 21, alongside Annie Lennox.
CORD's Director Michael Godfrey said that Corinne's involvement would help the charity to raise awareness of its programmes with Darfuri refugees in Chad, with former abducted child soldiers and young sex slaves in Northern Uganda, and with refugees returning to DRC and Burundi.
Corinne is tagged for charity - Mar 16 2007
Corinne Bailey Rae is joining a new initiative to raise money for children affected by war.
She’s joining Feeder, Lost Prophets and Akala to model dog tags, which will be sold in HMV stores from March 21 with profits going to charity War Child.
The tags - inscribed with the words "your war is not with me" will cost £2 for a set, and up to £1.54 of that will go direct to the charity. HMV hopes to sell 100,000 tags, which would raise around £150,000.
War Child works with former child soldiers, street children and children in prison in conflict countries including Iraq, Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mark Waddington, the charity’s Chief Executive, said: "By buying and wearing the War Child dog tags HMV’s customers can show their support for War Child’s projects working to protect children.
"We are grateful to HMV, whose partnership with us sends a powerful message of commitment to our cause."

"There will be a huge cast on stage with some outrageous fireworks," an insider told the paper.
It’s been a successful year for the 27-year-old Leeds lass, who shot into the spotlight after she released her self-titled debut album in February last year.
She has gone on to become a bona fide star and is only the fourth female to have her debut album chart at No 1. Corinne has also received three Grammy Award nominations.

Following her failed indie career Corinne went on to Leeds University to gain a degree in English Literature. It was whilst she was studying that she found herself working at a jazz club. When things were quiet she sang with the house band and began a relationship with saxophonist Jason Rae, whom she married in 2001.
Over the next few years she worked on material with local musicians, appearing on tracks for Homecut Directive and The StiX (formally Artful Dodger), which brought her to the attention of major record labels. In late 2005 she released her debut single Like A Star, followed by Put Your Records On which reached number 2 in the charts and garnered her a huge following throughout the UK.
Corinne remains in her home town in Leeds.
