Coldplayer hot for Gwyneth - 07/11/02
Hampstead resident, Chris Martin has admitted he is dating Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow after meeting her at Coldplay’s gig at Wembley Arena.
He says he went on a secret night out with the "beautiful" actress at the weekend, Gwyneth was pictured going back to Chris’s house in Hampstead. "I’m proud to be with someone who’s very nice and very beautiful but she’s not my girlfriend at the moment," he told The Sun.
"It’s early days. I got her number, rang her and asked if she wanted to meet. We went out at the weekend and we seem to get on. "We met up as friends and nothing has happened. We had a good time though. I don’t know when we’re going out again. I feel uncomfortable talking about her. We’re just becoming friends."
Gwyneth has been to several Coldplay concerts, including recent gigs at Wembley Arena and Dublin. Chris added: "This is all very weird because she’s a big Hollywood star and I’m just the bloke from Coldplay."
The band release ’The Scientist’ their second single off ’A Rush Of Blood To The Head’ on November 11.
Biography
Chris Martin was born 2nd March 1977, Exeter in Devon. He met the rest of the band , now know as Coldplay, Will Champion, Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland in the early 90s during their first week as students at University College London, and quickly became friends
Chris began writing songs with Jonny. Guy liked what he heard, and joined in on bass. Will was so keen to be part of it that he moved from guitar to drums. All four shared a passion for music.
They recorded a four-track EP and pressed 500 copies, which got them a gig at the In The City music festival in Manchester in 1998. That led to a one single deal that in turn led to Coldplay being signed to Parlophone.
Coldplay’s debut album, ’Parachutes’, sold nearly five million copies worldwide, winning them a clutch of NME and Q awards, two Brits in 2001 and the Grammy award for Best Alternative Album in 2002. Almost overnight, the band moved from playing small pubs to headlining US tours.
Their second album, ’A Rush of Blood To The Head’, was made with the same teamthat worked on Parachutes, this LP took longer than expected but was still worth waiting for.
In February 2002 during a break in recording, Chris went to Haiti and the Dominican Republic with Oxfam in support of their campaign to change the world trade rules.
It was a gruelling, intense trip, with long journeys over rough rural roads to meet the hard-working but impoverished farming communities whose lives are being devastated by fluctuations in the world coffee market and cheap US rice imports.
Since then, Chris has performed at the launch of the Fair Trade campaign in Trafalgar Square. It’s a cause the whole band supports.
