Don’t mention The War - 23/03/03
Hampstead resident Chris Martin from Coldplay spoke out against the war when accepting a Brit award in England, but has been strangely silent when accepting awards in the U.S.
Chris said at The Brits "We are all going to die when George Bush gets his way", but he has not repeated this vocal defiance over in America. Some critics have said that as Coldplay is on the brink of cracking the American market, that if they speak out against the U.S action they may alienate their potential audience.
However, at their most recent Stateside appearance - accepting the award for Best Alternative Album at the American Grammys - the television network that showed the event warned anyone speaking about the war would be taken off air. So maybe Chris is just waiting for the right moment to speak out.
Drummer Will Champion said after the event that the censorship was "absolutely disgusting, foul and totally fascist".
Wedding bells - 10/03/03
Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow are to marry next year with director Steven Spielberg walking the actress down the aisle.
It’s been rumoured that Chris proposed by phone on Friday, however, no official announcement will be made until a wedding ring has been bought.
Spielberg was a close friend of Bruce Paltrow, Gwyneth’s father, who died of pneumonia in October last year.
25-year-old Chris missed Gwyneth so much while on tour in the US that he rang her in London to propose. Aaah!!
Top of the Brits!
The Best British Group and Best British Album Awards went to Coldplay this year, and singer Chris Martin used his opportunity at the podium to deliver a political message to Bush and Blair.
He told the audience: "We think this is great, although awards are essentially nonsense. "We are all going to die when George Bush gets his way - but it’s great to go out with a bang,".
Chris’s movie star girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow watched them Coldplay on stage, safely hidden behind a beanie hat.
Out of his depth! - 17/02/03
Hampstead resident Chris Martin from Coldplay has said that he feels awkward talking about Gwyneth Paltrow as ’she is a big Hollywood star and I am just the bloke from Coldplay.’
All anyone wants to do at the moment is to ask him questions about Gwyneth - which makes it rather hard if Chris finds it uncomfortable conversation. But he added that he feels "My life is amazing - like a dream - and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s all happening to me."
How sweet, if slightly sickly...
Change the record - 28/01/03
Uh-oh Chris Martin has become a Gwynnie-bore. Primal scream’s Bobby Gillespie was so fed-up with Chris’ soppy stories that he told Chris to shut up because he was "boring everyone." Chris, you’re welcome to come and spill the beans to us.
Charitable Coldplay - 06/01/03
