After appearing in Cannes alongside Brad to showcase their new film, A Mighty Heart, Angie said, "I have always been honest about who I am, and I’ve always been very outspoken to press. I think people have heard a lot from me over the years. [If] people want to believe negative things, they will. ... I can’t help that.
"I’m going to be dead one day. And what people say about me is going to be what I accomplished and what I did in my life."
Angelina arrives in Cannes - May 22 2007
Angelina Jolie waved to the crowd as she arrived in Cannes - showing a rather veiny arm.
It’s not clear whether the slim star had been working out or maybe was feeling the pressure of being in the spotlight - but one things for sure she certainly set pulses racing.
The mum of four was accompanied by Mariane Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl who the Hollywood actress plays in her new movie.
A Mighty Heart was inspired by the life of the US journalist, who died five years ago, and stars 31-year-old Angelina as his wife.
Ang’s boyfriend Brad Pitt is also making an appearance in Cannes for his new movie - the somewhat more light-hearted Ocean’s Thirteen.
Later, on the red carpet, Jolie showed off her tattoos on her arm and her back.
The actress, wearing a black cocktail dress and peep-toe heels, walked up the red carpet hand in hand with Pitt, occasionally touching his face affectionately and whispering things in his ear.
But there was not the huge display of affection that Pitt and Aniston put on during their time on the same red carpet three years ago.
The loved-up couple were also joined by Pearl and her young son.
English star Panjabi wore a royal blue dress at the premiere.
British socialite Lady Victoria Hervey and St Trinian’s star Mischa Barton were also at the event.
Angelina: Why I adopted a third child - May 11 2007
Angelina Jolie has revealed she wanted to adopt her latest child partly so that there was somebody around who was similar to her eldest child.
Asked if she adopted Pax so Maddox would have a brother who looks like him, the star told Reader’s Digest that, after Shiloh’s birth "somebody in the house looked like Mommy and Daddy".
The 31-year-old added: "It became clear to us that it might be important to have somebody around who is similar to the other children so they have a connection."
She and Brad have four children - five-year-old Maddox, adopted from Cambodia, two-year-old Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, Shiloh, born to the couple last May, and Pax, three, adopted from Vietnam in March.
Angelina said: "I always said I was happy never to have a child biologically. (Brad) told me he hadn’t given up that thought. Then, after Z came home, I saw Brad with her and Mad, and I realised how much he loved them, that a biological child would not in any way be a threat."
She continued: "We’ve tried to figure out a lot of private time for each of them. When everybody goes to bed, we give Mad time. When everybody is at school, we give Shiloh time. In between, Z and Pax each get special time."
She told the magazine, out on May 22, that on Sundays, the children all get into bed with the couple and watch a film.
"We’re talking about having to build a bigger bed."

Her family moved to LA when Angelina was eleven and she soon began working on her acting career, enrolling in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute where ahe appeared in several productions. Despite her abilities Angelina was teased during her time at Beverley Hills High School - far from being beautiful and popular she was skinny, with glasses and braces and wore second hand clothes. At 14 she dropped out of theatre classes, harbouring dreams of becoming a funeral director, and began cutting herself. Angelina began a rebellious period of her life, moving out of home and in with her boyfriend.
At around the same time she was taken on by Finesse Model Management and took jobs in the US and Europe, she also appeared in several music videos for the likes of Meat Loaf and Lenny Kravitz. Then, at 16, she returned to acting and rekindled her relationship with her father. She appeared in several of her brother’s student films before, in 1993 she was offered a role in sci-fi flick Cyborg 2. Several equally poor productions followed before Angelina landed a role in Hackers, which was a cult hit and threw the actress in the direction of Jonny Lee Miller, whom she would soon marry.
Little known films such as Foxfire and Mojave Moon followed but it was the Golden Globe winning George Wallace that got Angelina noticed and Pushing Tin, which co-starred Billy Bob Thornton and The Bone Collector helped her on her way to global stardom. However it was her part as messed up teenager Lisa Rowe in Girl, Interrupted which won her her place on the Hollywood walk of fame. The role won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well as several other accolades.
Action movies Gone In 60 Seconds and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider followed and made sure Angelina was admired the world over by men and women alike. Meanwhile her personal life became just as fascinating than her on screen performances. Having divorced Jonny Lee Miller she married Pushing Tin costar Billy Bob Thornton, famously they wore vials of blood around their neck, however in 2003 they also divorced despite having adopted a Cambodian orphan, Maddox. At the same time she admitted she had had a relationship with a female costar on the set of Foxfire. Meanwhile she continued with her now much publicised humanitarian work, as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN and her film career, appearing in Alexander and Taking Lies among others.
In 2005 Angelina took a leading role in Mr & Mrs Smith, opposite Brad Pitt. Although the movie itself was widely panned the burgeoning relationship between Angelina and Brad, who was at the time in the process of splitting from Jennifer Aniston, made sure it was a hit. The relationship was also a success, in January 2006 Angelina announced that she was pregnant, just months after adopting second child, Ethiopian Zahara, she gave birth to Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
Angelina has confirmed that she is working on a screen adaptation of Beowulf, A Mighty Heart and Atlas Shrugged.
