Memories From a Fading Room – Future Loop Foundation
Release date: Out now
Format: Single
Genre: Electro
Our Rating: 4/5
This, the fifth album by the Future Loop Foundation, is a work steeped in nostalgia and wistfulness for a bygone age. The basis behind the album is a collection of old family interviews which lay gathering dust in an attic for nearly 25 years. Now, the man behind FLP, Mark Barrott, has taken these recordings and woven the dialogue into a musical collage mixed with sweeping soundscapes and hypnotic beats.
The result is a blissful collection of tracks that leave you with a wonderfully warm, fuzzy feeling. Samples of distant church bells and seagulls crying are fused with synthesiser chords and piano melodies, all the while the little trickles of dialogue weave in and out. It’s part Tubular Bells and part the Orb – at times achingly wistful, as in Everything As It Should Be, and gloriously euphoric as on the album highlight, Sunshine Philosophy. If you love chilled-out ambience mixed with a bit of experimentalism, then this is well worth a listen.
