New Young Pony Club-Fantastic Playroom
Release date: 18 June 2007
Format: Album
Genre: Electro-Indie
Our Rating: 3/5
From the word go, Fantastic Playroom is upbeat, electro and…wait for it…magnetic- meaning it will stick to you ‘til Armageddon. If at the end of play you have that annoying ringing noise in your ear this will be the fault of NYPC sizzling beats.
Fantastic Playroom has all the right gripping elements that will have you hot-stepping on the dance floor, and will make you feel at one with the Hoxton scenesters. One track which sticks out like a sore thumb is their classic ‘Ice cream’ - yep that’s the track- the one that see limbless individuals prancing about in the Intel advert.
‘Get Lucky’ has a raging chorus, ‘Jerk me’ is just plain filthy, (well dutty is good!) and Tight Fit’ is the perfect size and style on the album. Pony by name but not in music.

“A seductive slab of New Order-meets-ESG disco punk’ Time Out
New Young Pony Club, have already worked the underground up into a lather with dance floor destroyers like ‘The Bomb’ and ‘Ice Cream’ – full of their signature provocative lyrics and knee jerking production. The 5 piece are now set to bring the world alight with debut album ‘Fantastic Playroom’, released June 18th.
After a chance meeting between lead singer Tahita and production guru Andy in 2005 a master plan was put into action to establish something distinctly new and utterly potent. Enter – New Young Pony Club – 2 boys and 3 girls (Tahita Bulmer, Andy Spence, Sarah Jones, Igor Volk, Lou Hayter), the kind of band that has the boys going wild and girls wishing they were dancing alongside on stage.
Two years later, a debut single under their belt and a UK tour planned for the summer – New Young Pony Club, are ready to drop the highly anticipated and salivated over debut album.
‘Grey’ has all the hallmarks of a great track with its immediate, entirely loveable and radio friendly chorus. ‘The Get Go’ and ‘F.A.N’ provide the kind of tight and bass-heavy future discoid noise currently setting hairs on end up and down the country.
Crammed full of the types of songs that keep you dancing ‘til the sun comes out to play – ‘Fantastic Playroom’ is bound to be the soundtrack to a hot and sweaty summer – accompanied by, of course, lots of ‘Ice Cream’.
After wowing the glow stick masses on the NME rave tour, New Young Pony Club embark on their first debut headline tour up and down the UK.
