Maintaining his position as the king (or queen?!) of dramatic pop, Darren Hayes presents us with the musical marathon that is This Delicate Thing We’ve Made which is two hours of music over two discs. Blasting us with his trademark falsetto, delicious lyrics and the ever present euro-pop beats, die-hard fans will not be disappointed but only the most faithful of followers will be able to stomach the whole two hours from start to finish as, like chocolate pudding, a little is good but too much is just a tad too sickly.

Some songs are difficult to distinguish from the next as they are pretty similar so a few listens are needed to learn the differences. Among the sea of sameness are some glimmers of hope with tracks like The Future Holds A Lion’s Heart with its Roxette style power-rock feel, the disco charged Me, Myself and (I) and A Fear Of Falling Under, a trancey little number. This Delicate Thing We’ve Made is quite a mixed bag of songs that are either moving and memorable, different and interesting or just plain old middle of the road and forgetful.

This album will please some of the people all of the time (superfans probably), all of the people some of the time but definitely won’t please all of the people all of the time.
