Music review: Anemo - Pray
Release date: Out now
Genre: Pop Rock
Format: Single
Our rating: 3/5
Anemo are a seven-piece rock band fronted by two female vocalists who sound a little bit masculine. The band’s name comes from the Greek word ‘Anemos,’ which apparently means ‘changing forms’ and ‘Pray’ is a song based on the experience of BBC World Affairs Editor John Simpson who was travelling with a convoy of US Special Forces and Kurdish fighters when they were mistakenly bombed by a US aeroplane in 2003.
That should tell you most of what you need to know about ‘Pray.’
A song based on someone else’s experiences – and in this case the experience of war and destruction – is always going to be tricky to pull off. Sadly, Anemo don’t quite make it. Overblown and a bit try-hard, the Shakespeare Sisters-esque warbling doesn’t add anything very new to a tragic news story and this is less of a rock anthem and more of a damp squib.
