Sugababes 'embarrassing' video shoot - Oct 8 2007
Sugababes' current single, About You Now, has been described as a pop masterpiece by various music publications, but for the girls, the video accompanying the song stands out - because of the embarrassing shoot.
Filmed on London's South Bank, near Ken Livingstone's mayoral office, the trio were under the impression it would be a closed set like the rest of their shoots - but were left red-faced because they had to film it in public.
"It was so embarrassing," says Heidi with her head in her hands. "Not for one second did I think it was going to be actually ON the South Bank. I was shaking. I get nervous for videos anyway, for the first few takes I'm terrible. You have to stand there looking into a camera, trying to look sexy which is embarrassing anyway, even if it's only in front of the crew. But we had to do it in front of people commuting to and from work. It was awful!"
Sugababe Bailed in Assault Probe - 30 April 2020
Sugababes singer Amelle Berrabah has been arrested and released on police bail, it was confirmed today.
Surrey Police confirmed that they arrested a 23-year-old woman in a bar in Guildford in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The woman, understood to be Amelle, was questioned on suspicion of assault and later released on police bail.
A police spokeswoman said they could not confirm the name of the woman.
Newspaper reports today claimed that the newest member of the all-girl dance act was arrested after a confrontation on the dance floor of nightspot Bar Med in the Surrey town.
The Mirror and Sun report that the alleged victim was an 18-year-old woman and that Amelle has now joined her bandmates, Keisha Buchanan and Heidi Range, on a flight to America.
A spokeswoman for Amelle’s record company has said there would be no comment from the Sugababes’ management on the arrest.
The band has had three line-ups since their debut single Overload in 2000. Amelle joined in December 2005, replacing original member Mutya Buena.
A string of hits like Freak Like Me and Angels with Dirty Faces has made the Sugababes one of the country’s most successful all-girl groups.
Sugababes’ dolls to outsell Girls Aloud - April 23 2007
The Sugababes are launching a Barbie collection which is expected to outsell dolls by Girls Aloud.
Each band member has created a doll’s look including clothes, hair colour and skin tone.
And toy manufacturer Mattel expects the Sugababes’ dolls to outsell Barbies designed by Girls Aloud which went on sale in November 2005.
Kirsty Bullen, girls’ marketing manager at the firm, said: "Hot off the success of Barbie designed by Girls Aloud, the new Sugababes collection is going to do even better.
"We have doubled our order as we sold out so quickly last time and we want to make sure that all the Sugababes fans everywhere can get their hands on these brilliant dolls."
The trio, Keisha Buchanan, Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah appear in a commercial for the dolls, which launches on Tuesday.
The 11.5in Sugababes-designed Barbie dolls will go on sale at UK toy stores in May priced at £9.99 each.
