She told the star-studded audience: "It’s exciting because you don’t who’s going to win. Unless you’re British, and then you know you’ve a pretty good shot."
And she quipped: "There are a lot of British nominees. Would I say too many? Not here. At home in my pyjamas with half a box of Chardonnay and me, who knows..."
Another target for her jokes was best actress Dame Judi Dench.
She missed the ceremony because she is having knee surgery - but the comic joked that she was really undergoing plastic surgery, saying: "She’s having knee surgery - on her eyes."
Later she told the audience: "I apologise. I said Dame Judi was getting her eyes done. It’s her boobs."
Sacha in Borat 2? - Feb 9 2007
It seems comic Sacha Baron Cohen has agreed to do a sequel of his hit Borat film.
During a press conference, News Corp chairman CEO Rupert Murdoch said Fox and Sacha were reuniting for the project, reports Variety.
But don’t throw your hands up in the air in celebration yet.
It appears the announcement may have been premature.
A 20th Century Fox spokesman told Variety: "We’re eager to work with Sacha again and we’ve had casual discussions about a sequel, which we’d love to do, but at this point it remains too preliminary to discuss."
A News Corp spokesman also said that Rupert "was under the mistaken impression that we had signed a deal".
Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Last month Sacha also picked up a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a comedy/musical for the flick.

"Not since John Lennon has an English entertainer had such an effect on the world," GQ said of Borat creator Baron Cohen.
The power list has Chancellor Gordon Brown in pole position for the second year running. Prime Minister Tony Blair is second.

At Cambridge, he got a History degree and did his thesis on Black and Jewish cultures. Fascinating. Best known for his Ali G character, aficionados think that his Kazakhstani TV presenter character Borat Karabzhanov is much funnier. Apart from that we’re all waiting to see what he’ll do next.
