Mel gives baby Eddie’s name - April 24 2007
Former Spice Girl Mel B has given her baby daughter Eddie Murphy’s surname and insisted: "He’s the dad."
The three-week old little girl is called Angel Iris Murphy Brown.
Hollywood star Eddie has demanded DNA tests to prove he is the father.
But Mel - real name Melanie Brown - revealed the baby’s name in a statement today and said: "Angel, as she was my little angel through my pregnancy. Iris, as it’s my grandma’s name. Murphy, because he’s the dad. And Brown, because I’m the mum!"
The 31-year-old singer had a brief relationship with Dreamgirls star Eddie last year.
He dumped her in December and cast doubt on the baby’s paternity.
But Mel showed off Angel in this week’s OK! magazine and said: "I look at the baby and she has his big smile and dimples.
"She’s gorgeous. She has taken the best bits of both of us."
And she added: "He will always be a part of my life. I will always love him. I couldn’t hate Eddie. We had a dream life."
Mel ’registers Eddie as father’ - April 10 2007
Mel B has reportedly named Eddie Murphy as the father of her new baby girl on her birth certificate.
The former Spice Girl is adamant that the comedy star fathered the newborn child - and will soon have a DNA test to prove it, says Closer magazine.
Despite registering him as the father, the 31-year-old has said she wants nothing to do with the Beverly Hills Cop actor.
A friend said: "Mel is in no doubt that Eddie’s the father and she wanted to make a point by having his name on the birth certificate.
"But she doesn’t want him involved in the baby’s life because he has hurt her too much. She just feels that he will have to accept responsibility for the child at some point and that there was no need for him to be so dismissive of their relationship.
"Even when the tests prove he’s the father Mel still won’t have anything to do with him."
Mel gives birth to baby girl - April 4 2007
Mel B has given birth to a baby girl, it was announced today.
The 31-year-old former Scary Spice was taken to hospital in Santa Monica, California, at 5.30pm yesterday local time after her waters broke.
The as-yet-unnamed baby girl was born just after midnight.
A spokeswoman for the singer said: "The baby is completely healthy with a good head of hair. Mother and baby are now resting.
"No name has been decided on as yet, and she is purely known as Baby Brown."
The singer - real name Melanie Brown - already has an eight-year-old daughter, Phoenix Chi, by ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar.
She now faces a paternity battle with Hollywood star Eddie Murphy.
The couple had a whirlwind romance last year and Mel claims Eddie is the father of her new baby.
But she was left stunned when the Dreamgirls star went on a TV show to tell the world their relationship was over, and said he would demand paternity tests.
Mel insists the actor is the father and is "astonished" by his claims.
"There is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father," she said.
Mel B is the latest Spice Girl to become a mum.
Geri Halliwell gave birth to daughter Bluebell Madonna last year and Victoria Beckham has three boys.
Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, is expecting her first child this summer with boyfriend Jade Jones.

Mel moved to London in an attempt to break into the entertainment business. She answered an advert in entertainment publication The Stage, went to the audition and was selected because of her voice and good looks to be part of the Spice Girls who as we all know, went on to dominate the charts all over the world. Her up-front attitude and in-your-face style has won her a huge gay following.
Now more famous for her boob job (removed after leakage) and pierced tongue (removed when the hole got too big) than her musical talents, Mel’s post-Spice Girls career is in freefall and she’s now desperate to become a TV presenter before it splats. A former Spectacle Wearer of the Year who bites her toenails and detests all forms of salad, Mel says her ideal man would be ’zany’. Let’s hope she chooses more wisely than ex-husband Jimmy ’Gold Card’ Gulzar, her former backing singer who is said to have tearfully serenaded a close male friend with I Will Always Love You at their wedding. She is however the proud mother of baby daughter Phoenix Chi.
Mel B has boughgt her mum a home in Headingley, and to be even closer to her roots, Mel is considering buying herself a home in Alwoodley.
