Bibi said Mel -- formerly known as Scary Spice -- was not giving interviews "at this stage."

Eddie, 45, who stars in the upcoming Dreamgirls film, was recently asked by a TV interviewer if he was excited that Mel was pregnant.

"Now you’re being presumptuous because we’re not together anymore," Eddie replied.

"And I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test. You shouldn’t jump to conclusions, sir."

A clip of the interview was posted earlier this week on the entertainment Web site TMZ.com.

Arnold Robinson, a spokesman for Eddie, said he did not comment on the actor’s personal life.

Mel’s distress at Eddie - Dec 7 2006
Melanie Brown has spoken out over her relationship with Eddie Murphy - saying she was "distressed" and "astonished" by his comments about her.

The pregnant ex-Spice Girl was thought to believe that the couple were going to marry when she flew into Britain recently following their whirlwind romance.

But she was stunned when the Hollywood star went on a TV show to tell the world their relationship was over, and questioned whether he was the father of her baby.

The former singer released a statement today revealing her distress at the turn of events.

She said: "I am obviously upset and distressed at some of the comments made by Eddie Murphy to the media.

"I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way.

"My main concern is for the wellbeing of my daughter Phoenix and of course the baby. I was astonished what Eddie said - there is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father."

"My main concern is to concentrate on the wellbeing of my daughter and baby."

The 45-year-old actor was seen showing off his new girlfriend, film producer Tracey Edmonds at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls, earlier this week.

The ex-wife of singer Kenneth ’Babyface’ Edmonds said they had been seeing each other "for about a month and a half".

Mel is ’shell-shocked’ - Dec 7 2006
Pregnant Spice Mel B is apparently "shell-shocked" that Eddie Murphy is demanding her baby has a DNA test when it is born.

The 31-year-old is furious that the actor thinks the child may not be his and insists she was faithful to him during their whirlwind romance, reports The Sun.

According to the paper, Mel told a friend: "There’s no question that Eddie is the father of my baby. I haven’t been with anyone else since I met Eddie.

"I’m shell-shocked by the whole thing. As far as I was concerned we hadn’t really broken up - we’d just had a bit of a row."

To make matters worse, it seems the first thing Mel heard about the split was when she read it in the paper.

The Beverly Hills Cop actor, 45, was seen showing off his new girlfriend, film producer Tracey Edmonds at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls, earlier this week.

The ex-wife of singer Kenneth ’Babyface’ Edmonds said they had been seeing each other "for about a month and a half".

Is Eddie’s mum to blame for Mel split? - Dec 6 2006
It seems that Eddie Murphy’s mum might be to blame for the split between the Hollywood actor and former Scary Spice, Mel B.

The Beverly Hills Cop actor, 45, was seen showing off his new girlfriend, film producer Tracey Edmonds at the New York premiere of Dreamgirls.

But apparently there is another woman in the works - his mum Lillian whom Eddie still lives with.

Biography

Mel B - better known as Scary Spice - was born in Leeds in 1975 to a white mother and an Afro-Caribbean father and says it was the racial abuse she suffered growing up which gave her the drive to succeed.

Mel moved to London in an attempt to break into the entertainment business. She answered an advert in entertainment publication The Stage, went to the audition and was selected because of her voice and good looks to be part of the Spice Girls who as we all know, went on to dominate the charts all over the world. Her up-front attitude and in-your-face style has won her a huge gay following.

Now more famous for her boob job (removed after leakage) and pierced tongue (removed when the hole got too big) than her musical talents, Mel’s post-Spice Girls career is in freefall and she’s now desperate to become a TV presenter before it splats. A former Spectacle Wearer of the Year who bites her toenails and detests all forms of salad, Mel says her ideal man would be ’zany’. Let’s hope she chooses more wisely than ex-husband Jimmy ’Gold Card’ Gulzar, her former backing singer who is said to have tearfully serenaded a close male friend with I Will Always Love You at their wedding. She is however the proud mother of baby daughter Phoenix Chi.

Mel B has boughgt her mum a home in Headingley, and to be even closer to her roots, Mel is considering buying herself a home in Alwoodley.
