Jemima’s fears for Imran - Nov 14 2007
Jemima Khan has spoken of her fears following the arrest in Pakistan of her ex-husband, the former cricket star turned politician Imran Khan.

Imran came out of hiding to attend a student demonstration in Lahore, but was detained by hard-liners and handed over to the police.

Speaking after the arrest, Jemima hit out at General Pervez Musharraf’s "brutal and oppressive" rule and aired concern over her former husband’s wellbeing.

Imran fled house arrest last week after claiming that police ransacked his home and roughed up members of his family as part of a crackdown on political opponents.

He surfaced today at a rally in the eastern city of Lahore at which he was cheered by around 200 supporters and lifted into the air, according to reports.

But other students representing the hard-line Jamaat-e-Islami party seized the fugitive politician and bundled him into a nearby building before handing him over to the authorities.

Jemima said: "The latest information I have got is that they have charged him under the terrorism act, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

"He is being held in a police station at the moment and we have been told that he will be moved to the local prison."

The British socialite was married to Imran for nearly a decade until their 2004 divorce and has two children with the Pakistani politician.

Jemima said she had not had heard from her ex-husband since his arrest, but that he had been in regular contact whilst in hiding. "We have had contact with him every day," she said.

She added: "We are all worried - myself, my children and all Imran’s friends."

Police probe Jemima’s missing cat - June 20 2007
A valuable cat thought to belong to society heiress Jemima Khan sparked a police search yesterday after it went missing.

The pet was one of two Bengal cats given to Jemima by her former boyfriend Hugh Grant, the Daily Mail reported.

The cats - originally created by crossing an Asian Leopard Cat with a domestic cat - can cost between £300 to thousands of pounds for a pedigree variety.

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said that originally both cats were missing. The first vanished on Friday, and the second disappeared on Monday but was returned shortly afterwards, he said.

There is still no sign of the first cat and 33-year-old Jemima called police on Monday.

Two female officers attended the address in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham yesterday to speak to her about the "high value" disappearance, police said.

"We attended an address on June 19 regarding the disappearance of a Bengal cat," a Yard spokesman said.

"Officers spoke to the owner but at this stage, there is nothing to suggest the cat’s disappearance is suspicious. However, if evidence to the contrary emerges, this will be considered."

He defended the decision to send officers to help find the celebrity’s pet, saying: "It was not treated as a 999 call but because of the high value of the missing property - a Bengal cat is not your average moggy - we feel that the response was perfectly normal and proportionate to the value."
