Cartoon part for Jamelia and Justin - Dec 13 2007
Pop star Jamelia and reformed cocaine addict Justin Hawkins are voicing the singing parts in a new BBC1 children's cartoon.
Justin, 32, former frontman of glam rock band The Darkness, sings and plays guitar for the character of Kurtz in the CBBC show.
His cartoon alter-ego is a guitar-wielding frontman of an evil band, Mantyz.
Jamelia, 26, sings for Sugar Che, a mentor and fairy godmother to the band Freefonix.
The animated series, aimed at six to 12-year-olds, is described as a classic battle of "good versus evil".
Guest stars in Freefonix will also include X Factor singer Chico, actor Joseph Fiennes and cricketer Alastair Cook.
The series is named after the fictional band, Freefonix, who set out to stop the character Mya De Zya and her cronies from causing havoc in the city of Los-Bosmos.
Justin has revealed that he blew more than £150,000 on cocaine in three years during a secret battle with chronic drug addiction and alcoholism.
The singer, who lost out in the contest to represent Britain at Eurovision this year, has talked openly about his cocaine shame to warn others about the dangers of drugs.
The music animation show starts on January 4 at 4.30pm on the CBBC strand on BBC1.
Jamelia slams Leona reports - Sept 27 2007
Jamelia has hit back at reports that she had a pop at Leona Lewis - insisting she "never said a bad word" about her.
The Brummie songstress was keen to set the record straight after it was reported that she had labelled the X Factor winner "a poor man’s Mariah Carey".
She told the Alan Titchmarsh Show: "Do you know what, I’m so glad that you brought this up because I have the opportunity to say, to tell the truth in front of millions of people and you can’t edit it because it’s live!
"Yes, well basically I said nothing of the sort, I even tried to call Simon (Cowell) earlier on today; didn’t get through."
She continued: "I mean I’ve always thought Simon was fantastic, I’ve never said a bad word about Leona and it infuriates me."
The 26-year-old said the tabloids make rows up.
"It infuriates me that they feel the need to, especially girls in the industry; they try to pit us against each other, absolute total fabrication, I didn’t say anything of the sort and it’s really upsetting," she explained.
Jamelia back with Darren? - Sept 19 2007
Jamelia is apparently back with her ex-boyfriend Darren Byfield, it’s been reported.
The couple, who have a 23-month-old daughter Tiani together, split up last month.
A friend told The Sun: "Jamelia and Darren are back together.
"One of their problems was the distances they travel for work. But they still love each other.
"Jamelia has moved back to Birmingham, near her family, and Darren now lives in Bristol. But he will go to Birmingham when he can and she will go to Bristol at weekends. There’s every chance they will be living together before long."
It was recently reported that Jamelia said she would be open to a reconciliation with the footballer - who she has been dating for three years.
She was quoted as saying: "We are having some heart-to-heart talks at the moment. We still both care about each other.
"It was a mutual break but we’re trying to work it out."

Signed to Parlaphone aged just fifteen, Jamelia impressed record execs with a tape of self penned songs sung a-capella. Her first single, So High, was released in 1999 but it failed to chart while follow up, I Do, entered the charts but at a low position. Still just eighteen Jamelia released an album, Drama, which peaked at 39 in the charts and produced the single Money which went top five and earned the singer five MOBO nominations.
Taking time out to look after her baby daughter Teja, born in 2001, Jamelia returned to music in 2003, releasing Thank You, which stuck at number 65 in the album charts. However, despite this disappointment the accompanying single, Superstar, gave her a taste fo true pop stardom. Jamelia’s singles continued to chart well and before long she was also signed up to model for Pretty Polly and Reebok.
Three MOBO awards and three Brit nominations later Jamelia gave birth to a second daughter, Tiani, fathered by footballer Darren Byfield.
Her third album, Walk With Me, was released in 2006 and featured some quality collaborations and produced some reasonably successful singles, among them Something About You and Beware of the Dog.
Jamelia is a high profile campaigner for animal rights charity PETA and HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns with proceeds of her own fragrance donated to the cause.
