Gavin to deny train charges - Dec 11 2007
Rugby star Gavin Henson is to deny behaving in a disorderly manner when he is summoned to appear in court next month, his club has said.
Ospreys and Wales international Gavin, 25 - who became a father in September when girlfriend Charlotte Church had baby Ruby - is due to appear before Cardiff magistrates on January 14 in connection with allegations of drunken antics on a train.
Three friends who were with Gavin at the time of the alleged incident between London and Cardiff are also being summoned to appear in court on the same date.
All four are to be prosecuted for offences contrary to Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.
A spokesman for the Ospreys said Gavin denied disorderly conduct and would not be facing disciplinary action from the club.
"Gavin vehemently denies the charge and the Ospreys are fully in support of him in this matter," he said.
"The club has spent a great deal of time over the past week speaking with Gavin and related parties surrounding the events that occurred on Sunday December 2.
"It is our judgment that Gavin's personal conduct itself was not such as to warrant direct disciplinary action by the Ospreys."
The spokesman added that both Gavin and the Ospreys would like to offer their apologies to passengers who were disturbed on the train journey.
The British Transport Police named the four men men as Gavin, Jamie Mark Griffiths, 26, David Norman, 33, and Matthew Rhys Williams, 25.

Born on February 1st 1982 in Bridgend, South Wales, Gavin certainly has the rugby bug in his blood - his father, Alan Henson played prop for Maesteg - and from a young age he showed real promise on the pitch and wowed anyone who saw him play at junior level.
Gavin made his senior debut for Swansea in 2000 and the following year earned his first Wales cap while touring Japan and was named IRB and Wales Young Player of the Year. However, not long after the player Gavin had been playing in the place of returned and his international career was cut short and he concentrated on his place within the Ospreys.
2004 saw him back on the Wales first team and a number of good performances, including a record fourteen conversions in a test against Japan during the Autumn internationals, secured his place as one of Wales’ top players and, following this, he was a shoo in for a place on the 2005 Six Nations team and the Lions tour in the same year.
Gavin’s Six Nations performance, more than helping Wales’ with the series of wins that saw them lift the Grand Slam trophy, has cemented his place in the rugby hall of fame while his relationship with Cardiff singing sensation Charlotte Church has thrown him in to the media spotlight and made him the most recognisable sports star since that English rugby player.now what was his name again?
