Spaced to get US revamp? - Oct 31 2007
Hit sitcom Spaced is reportedly set to get a new life when it's remade for US television.
A pilot of the British comedy series, which starred Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson (now Hynes), is to be made - and if it's a hit it will be adapted for American audiences and shown on Fox, according to Variety.com.
Producer and writer Adam Barr, who has worked on Will & Grace and Desperate Housewives, is to revamp the show for its US pilot.
Spaced, which was written by Simon and Edgar Wright, as well as Jessica, focused on a pair of Londoners who posed as a couple to rent a cheap flat, and ended up becoming involved in the surreal antics of their friends and neighbours.
The series launched the career of Simon, who has gone on to star in Shaun Of The Dead and Hot Fuzz, and is now lined up to play Scotty in the forthcoming Star Trek movie.
Pegg to play Star Trek’s young Scotty - Oct 15 2007
British actor Simon Pegg is to play a young Scotty in the new Star Trek film.
The movie is a prequel chronicling the early days of Captain James T Kirk and his Starship Enterprise crew.
Shaun Of The Dead star Simon will take the role of chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, played in the original TV series by James Doohan.
The film is being directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams.
He cast Simon, 37, after working with him on Mission: Impossible III.
This will be the 11th Star Trek movie and shooting begins in November. It is set for release on Christmas Day 2008.
Australian star Eric Bana will play the baddie, Nero, and original Spock Leonard Nimoy has a cameo role.
US actor Chris Pine is apparently in talks to play the young Captain Kirk.
The film will show the crew first meeting at the Starfleet Academy and embarking on their first mission.

Simon Pegg first came to the nations attention in the award winning series Spaced. He has since gone on to establish his name on the American movie circuit, released cult British comedy movies and become friend to the celebrity set.
Pegg’s first foray into the British comedy circuit came as recently as 1993, when he moved to London and started out with a spot of stand-up, which led to a number appearances on small screen features, such as Six Pairs of Pants, Big Train and Hippies.
However, in 1999 he created and co-wrote what was to become the smash hit ‘Spaced’, his performance in which earned him a nomination for Best Male Comedy newcomer, in the British Comedy Awards. The series brought him into partnership with Jessica Hynes, plus introduced his best friend Nick Frost onto the scene. The three went on to create and star in the ‘RomZomCom’ Shaun of the Dead, with Spaced director Edgar Wright, a satirical take on George A. Romero’s earlier Dead movies.
Shaun of the Dead was an instant hit, so much so, that Pegg and Wright were invited to make cameo appearances in Romero’s latest zombie film, Land of the Dead.
Pegg went on to star in a number comedy classics, including Black Books, Brass Eye Special, I’m Alan Partridge and 24 Hour Party People. He has also taken part in a number of audio plays, including a number of Doctor Who productions. Movie-wise, Pegg hit the Hollywood box office with an appearance in Mission: Impossible III in 2006, closely followed by the movie Big Nothing, in which he played an American character alongside David Schwimmer.
2007 saw the second big screen offering from Pegg and Wright, with Hot Fuzz. Variously lauded and panned by the critics, the film became known as the second addition to their ‘Blood and Ice Cream Trilogy’. Other role calls for 2007 include The Good Night and Run, Fat Boy, Run, directed by David Schwimmer and co-starring Thandie Newton.
Pegg married in 2005 and is godfather to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, Apple.
