Paris praised over boozy elephants - Nov 13 2007
Conservationists in India have praised Paris Hilton for speaking out on her latest cause -- binge-drinking elephants.
Activists said such a celebrity endorsement would raise awareness of the plight of the elephants and they encouraged the US socialite and reality TV star to visit the remote region that is home to the world’s largest concentration of wild Asiatic elephants.
Sangeeta Goswami, head of animal rights group People for Animals, said: "I am indeed happy Hilton has taken note of recent incidents of wild elephants in north-east India going berserk after drinking home-made rice beer and getting killed."
Last month six wild elephants were electrocuted after discovering and drinking the potent brew, which farmers ferment.
Paris apparently called on local residents to lock up their booze after hearing of the elephant deaths.
She reportedly said: "It is just so sad.
"The biggest problems are in Assam and Meghalaya. The elephants get drunk all the time. "It is becoming really dangerous. We need to stop making alcohol available to them."
Paris ’unrecognisable’ for new role - Nov 5 2007
Decked out in black leather and a short black wig, Paris Hilton has said she will be "unrecognisable" in her new role in film Repo! The Genetic Opera! in which she plays Amber Sweet.
"She just changes her look every day throughout the film," the socialite told Extra. "I have different noses, different eyes, different hair."
Paris admits she is spending four hours in the make-up chair each day for the horror musical, in which she stars alongside British actor Anthony Head.
"Paris’ singing is great," he said.
Meanwhile the director Darren Lynn Bousman said he had no qualms about casting Paris after she wowed casting directors at her audition.
"She walked out of the room and everyone’s jaw dropped and said ’she’s our girl’," he revealed.
And Paris reckons fans will be in for a treat when the movie, which is currently filming in Toronto, comes out next year.
"I think everyone will be very surprised when they see it," she smiled.
Paris’ Rwanda trip postponed - Oct 29 2007
It looks like Paris Hilton’s charity trip to Rwanda has been postponed.
The visit to the war-torn African country was supposed to be the hotel heiress’ first major philanthropic effort since her jail sentence in June, but has now been put on hold by the foundation that organised it.
In a statement released to People.com, the Playing For Good Foundation said: "Due to the restructuring of the Playing For Good Foundation, the philanthropic trip to Rwanda that the foundation had previously planned with Paris Hilton has been postponed.
"Paris has been a loyal and gracious supporter of Playing For Good but the foundation has to regrettably reschedule this trip. Playing For Good would like to thank Ms Hilton for her generosity and her continued support of this initiative, and is looking forward to rescheduling the trip with her at a later time."

She might be set to inherit an estimated $20m but that hasn’t stopped Paris turning her hand to a variety of ’jobs’ including TV star ? on The Simple Life, in which ex friend Nicole also starred ? movie star (with cameo appearances in Zoolander and The Cat in The Hat followed by a starring role in House of Wax), writer, albeit of her own autobiography, and model. These extra jobs are thought to have netted her around an extra $6m, a tidy sum which no doubt more than makes up for the ridicule Paris faces daily.
More recently Paris has get in on the music industry, founding Heiress Records on which she will produce her own debut record ? first single ’Screwed’ has already been leaked and, naturally, slated. She has also hit the headlines for becoming engaged to fellow heir Paris Latsis with whom she is regularly seen on the LA and New York party scene.
