The couple were married at the castle by an official from Cheltenham register office. Tracey Bowers, head registrar of births and marriages, said: "Their notice to marry was taken down from our board on February 28. Their ceremony was due to take place at the castle. We have had registrars carrying out marriages at several venues over the past two days."
The small town of nearby Winchcombe has been caught in the grip of wedding fever, as celebrities travel to Gloucestershire for the glitzy event.
At least 50 members of the media have gathered in the Cotswold town, which has a population of little over 4,000. Rows of shops in the high street have put out signs and blown up balloons to wish the newlyweds well. Some businesses are disappointed that their services were not used for the wedding.
But Rachel Jones, a hairdresser at the nearby Cats’ Whiskers salon said the town was "overwhelmed with excitement".
A spokeswoman for Gloucestershire County Council, said: "Liz Hurley was married yesterday afternoon, that is all I am allowed to give out."
Liz’s wedding plans step up a gear - Mar 1 2007
Model Liz Hurley’s wedding preparations were stepping up a gear - as a giant marquee was erected in the grounds of the stately home which will host the lavish ceremony.
Liz, 41, will marry Indian businessman Arun Nayar at Sudeley Castle, near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, on Saturday, in what has been billed as the showbiz wedding of the year.
Activity at the secluded site has been increasing steadily over the past few days, and security guards have begun patrolling the grounds.
The couple’s celebrity friends will be treated to breathtaking views of the Cotswold countryside from the huge marquee which has appeared outside the castle.
A covered walkway has also been erected from the gardens into the house, presumably to keep the star out of view from the packs of paparazzi who are expected to gather from around the world.
Sir Elton John and designer Donatella Versace are among the high profile guests expected to attend the bash, which is being hosted by Liz’s close friend Henry Dent-Brocklehurst, who owns Sudeley Castle.
Liz and her new husband are thought to be planning to fly to India for a second celebration after the wedding.
In a break from tradition, Liz has reportedly asked guests to give pigs and cows as wedding gifts to stock her country estate.
The brunette, who is the £1 million face of fashion chain Monsoon, wants to build up her organic farm at Barnsley, near Cirencester.
Liz marrying in palace? - Feb 24 2007
Liz Hurley’s wedding is still a month away, but rumours are rife that she will marry her Indian businessman fiance at the Umaid Bhawan Palace.
The actress is due to wed Arun Nayar in Gloucestershire before flying to India for a second ceremony and a week-long celebration, reports the Daily Mail.
The 347-room palace, which belongs to Jodhpur’s ruling family, would be the ideal venue for the lavish wedding, which is said to include 200 celebrity guests.
It is the last of India’s great palaces and boasts 26 acres of gardens and a gilt and marble-decorated interior.
The couple remain tight-lipped about the nuptials, to be held on March 8, but hotel staff and even Mr Nayar’s stepmother Joanne have commented.
She told the paper: "The main wedding ceremony, which will obviously be an elaborate one, will be in Jodhpur.

At 21, Hurley got her first film role in the 1987 film Aria after having attended the London Studio Centre on scholarship. Hurley’s role in the film Remando al Viento that same year could be considered a crucial one, as it also starred her future boyfriend Hugh Grant.
However, despite acting and modelling jobs it was a certain safety pinned Versace frock that made Liz on of Britain’s most famous faces. She wore what would soon simply be called ’that dress’ to the premiere of Hugh’s breakthrough film Four Weddings and a Funeral. More attention followed when Estee Lauder signed Hurley to be the face of their cosmetics.
Although together for several years, even sticking together through the embarrassing Divine Brown incident, Hugh and Liz split in 2001 although they remain friends to this day. Liz had a brief fling with billionaire Steve Bing, during which she became pregnant with her son Damien. A very public battle occured during her pregnancy with Bing claiming that the child was not his. Liz found vindication when the child was born - not only was he the spit of Bing but a dna test proved without doubt what we could all see.
Liz is now engaged to Indian businessman Arun Nayer and their impending nuptuals have been the source of much speculation with several dates touted and even Hugh Grant has been suggested as Arun’s best man.
Meanwhile Liz’s career has taken a forward leap. Her acting credentials may be lousy (Bedazzled anyone?) and her stint as presenter of Project Catwalk might have been panned but the very British beauty has found her niche. Elizabeth Hurley Beach, her own range of beachwear has been flying off the shelves in the UK and US while her Estee Lauder job goes from strength to strength.
Liz splits her time between Ampney Crucis in the Cotswolds and California.
