The 42-year-old actress, who married Indian businessman Arun Nayar six months ago, told Hello she is still great friends with Hugh.
"It would be impossible for us not to have a good relationship because we’ve never fallen out over anything. I guess we just weren’t right for each other as boyfriend and girlfriend," she said.
"I never stopped loving him, but we used to drive each other demented. He’s very neurotic and I’m not. We didn’t really argue, but we used to irritate each other like mosquitoes."
Liz, who ran a film production with partner of 13 years Hugh, added: "We have separate lives now but we are there for each other and that’s what counts."
And it seems Liz is relishing her new life with hubby Arun and her five-year-old son Damian.
"I feel more secure and love being an ’official’ family. We get on really well and are making lots of plans for the future," she added.

Elizabeth ’owes vicar for wedding’ - May 23 2007
Elizabeth Hurley has apparently not paid the vicar who conducted her £3 million pound wedding, despite the paltry £800 fee.
When the 41-year-old married Indian millionaire Arun Nayar earlier this year in Gloucestershire then India, it was one of the most extravagant weddings in recent memory.
But according to the Daily Mail the pair forgot to pay Rev John Partington - although Elizabeth has told friends she posted the cheque weeks ago and can only assume it has got lost, the Daily Mirror reports.
But that hasn’t stopped the situation angering local residents. Morris Davies told the Mail: "A lot of locals are not very happy about her not paying the vicar. John has been very hush-hush about it but the rest of the village have been chatting about the cheek of it all."
Mr Partington refused to comment on the story, saying: "Any arrangements are a private matter."

A source told the Daily Star: "Liz is helping organise the fete for the first week of June and there’s no doubt it will be wonderful.
"As well as a tombola, trampoline and bouncy castle for the kids, she is even laying on a raffle.
"There are a few hundred people expected and Liz is excited about the big day," the source added.

At 21, Hurley got her first film role in the 1987 film Aria after having attended the London Studio Centre on scholarship. Hurley’s role in the film Remando al Viento that same year could be considered a crucial one, as it also starred her future boyfriend Hugh Grant.
However, despite acting and modelling jobs it was a certain safety pinned Versace frock that made Liz on of Britain’s most famous faces. She wore what would soon simply be called ’that dress’ to the premiere of Hugh’s breakthrough film Four Weddings and a Funeral. More attention followed when Estee Lauder signed Hurley to be the face of their cosmetics.
Although together for several years, even sticking together through the embarrassing Divine Brown incident, Hugh and Liz split in 2001 although they remain friends to this day. Liz had a brief fling with billionaire Steve Bing, during which she became pregnant with her son Damien. A very public battle occured during her pregnancy with Bing claiming that the child was not his. Liz found vindication when the child was born - not only was he the spit of Bing but a dna test proved without doubt what we could all see.
Liz is now engaged to Indian businessman Arun Nayer and their impending nuptuals have been the source of much speculation with several dates touted and even Hugh Grant has been suggested as Arun’s best man.
Meanwhile Liz’s career has taken a forward leap. Her acting credentials may be lousy (Bedazzled anyone?) and her stint as presenter of Project Catwalk might have been panned but the very British beauty has found her niche. Elizabeth Hurley Beach, her own range of beachwear has been flying off the shelves in the UK and US while her Estee Lauder job goes from strength to strength.
Liz splits her time between Ampney Crucis in the Cotswolds and California.
