Kate’s friends have wasted no time in giving their version of events with one claiming that the accessories buyer was sick of playing second fiddle to the army and another reporting that William did the dumping via a phonecall.

Neither Clarence House or the Middleton family have made a statement regarding the split however Kate has made it clear to press that she is fine - appearing outside her home wearing a beaming smile as she headed out to play tennis.

Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton has topped a poll of natural beauties.

The 25-year-old’s English rose looks and understated fashion sense earned her first place - but Prince Harry’s glamorous other half Chelsy Davy did not feature in the top 10 at all.

Charlotte Church came second. The former Voice of an Angel has refused to diet herself down, insisting she’s happy with her curves.

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer was third, followed by Kate Moss, still a beauty despite her party-loving lifestyle.

Catherine Zeta Jones was fifth, followed by Keira Knightley - and Victoria Beckham made a surprise entry at number 10.

The survey, commissioned by Fox’s biscuits to promote its new Naturally Fox’s range, asked 1,000 people to rate the most naturally attractive celebrities.

The majority of men surveyed said they preferred women to go natural rather than adopt the plastic Hollywood look.

Surgically-enhanced glamour girl Jordan topped their list of the least natural celebrities, followed by Abi Titmuss, Paris Hilton, Jade Goody and Jodie Marsh.

Francesca Davies, Fox’s innovations manager, said: "These findings finally dispel the myth that all men are attracted to plastically enhanced women, which is a great relief for all the ’natural’ women out there!

"Kate Middleton is a true natural beauty whether in designer or high street wear."

Kate joins royals at William’s parade - Dec 15 2006
Prince William’s girlfriend Kate Middleton turned up to watch the future King receive his commission as an officer in the Army.

It is the first time Kate has been at a high profile public event attended by the Queen and other senior royals as William’s guest.

Her appearance will intensify speculation that the pair, who have been dating for several years, are to marry.

So far, the couple, who shared a flat at university, have shied away from the media, but Kate’s attendance at Sandhurst will propel her even further into the spotlight.

She was there for the Prince’s graduation at St Andrews, but in her own right as she was receiving her degree certificate in the same ceremony.

William is joining the Household Cavalry’s Blues and Royals like his brother Prince Harry.

His grandparents, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, father the Prince of Wales and stepmother the Duchess of Cornwall were all there to watch him march in the Sovereign’s Parade at the military college in Camberley, Surrey.
