MV: Do you think the guys (One True Voice) are going to be able to last for very much longer?
JH: I think they have one more chance but their new single is awful. I just feel sorry for them. But they are at number 8 in the charts. Ok, people are fobbing them off and they’re getting really bad press. The song ain’t great but there must be some closet buyers as people are buying it. I still think they could come back with something really strong though.
MV: Do you come from a musical background?
JH: My family used to blast the music up, especially on a Sunday when we had a family roast dinner. I used to listen to Neneh Cherry, Jodeci, Whitney Houston, and there’s loads of pictures of me trying to be Michael Jackson when I was little.
MV: Who is/are your icon(s)?
JH: I have so many musical icons. At the moment, it’s Amerie - I think she is so wicked. Also people like India Arie, Beyonce, Aaliyah...
MV: You’re a Ladbroke Grove girl. What do you like about living in the area?
JH: It’s a good community. There are some strange people around here but you can dress and look how you want and no one looks at you different. There’s a real ethnic mix - the Moroccans, Asians, blacks, mixed race and everyone kinda moves with everyone.
MV: Do you see yourself living in the area for the foreseeable future or are you going to go all Hollywood on us?
JH: I could never move out of West or North West London - I have to stay in the perimeter. Everything you want is here.
MV: Tell us something we don’t know about the Grove?
JH: Where Ion Bar is, that used to be where the tramps used to sleep - so whilst people are all in there drinking their champagne, they are dancing on a site that used to be an old toilet.
MV: Do you have a favourite shop or fashion designer?
JH: I’m into my adidas but not really into any designers. I get given clothes from designers I’ve never even heard of and I’m like ’whatever’.
MV: It was said that you are / were dating Anton (from Popstars - The Rivals) - is that true? - are you dating someone?
JH: I never dated Anton from Popstars - that was crap. I have been with my boyfriend for over 5 years. That whole thing was wrong and got blown out of proportion.
MV: Where do you see yourself in two years time?
JH: Hopefully making another album. And hopefully people will be embracing and supporting me and enjoying my music, that’s the main thing. I don’t want to do well just because people see me as the underdog, but because they like the music.
MV: When can we expect an album from you?
JH: It should be out around October time. The album is more or less finished now. I’d say the single ’Real Things’ is the poppiest song on there. Most of it is soul tunes and it’s pretty edgy. I knew I’d have to come out with something strong. I cant be doing with any ’Ooh baby I love you.’!!
MV: Finally, you love performing live. When will we find you next on stage?
JH: This month, I am doing MTV Base lounge. I haven’t done anything live for ages and I am so not a good mimer as I’m all over the shop. It’ll be a good taster as it’s small and intimate. I’ll be singing a cover version too and I’ve got an idea to do Michael Jackson’s ’Rock With You’ - but we’ll see...

A role in the stage version of The Lion King followed, in which Javine spent two years, honing her skills in singing and dancing by night whilst studying in the daytime. This was when opportunity came knocking - a local audition for Popstars, The Rivals - she was hugely popular with audiences and made it in to the final six, narrowly missing out on a place in Girls Aloud.
Luckily Javine’s talents had been noted and she was offered a record deal with Innocent, sharing a label with Blue and Atomic Kitten. Her debut single Real Things reached number four in the charts and gained massive radio play. However, Javine’s releases have been largely ignored and despite much press attention surrounding her Eurovision attempt she remains very much out of the spotlight. She has now moved in to musical theatre, appearing in Daddy Cool.
