Catherine: I’ll never divorce - June 20 2007
Catherine Zeta Jones has said she’ll never split from hubby Michael Douglas, revealing that they are closer than ever.
Welsh-born Catherine, 37, who married Hollywood star Michael in a dream New York wedding in 2000, said she fell for her husband as soon as she saw him.
"I fell in love with my husband at first sight and I still feel the same way. I’ll never get divorced, never," she told Harper’s Bazaar.
In the interview, quoted by OK!, Catherine said fidelity is "in the genes".
"I grew up in a small Catholic fishing village. The people there stick together more. My parents have been married more than 40 years and that’s a great blueprint," she said.
Mum-of-two Catherine, who has lived the Hollywood dream since appearing in hit TV series The Darling Buds Of May, added that the secret to her happy marriage was spending plenty of quality time together.
"Michael and I work at having time together because you can get consumed. The lights are out, the kids are finally snoring, but so are we," she said.
"So from time to time we’ll drop the kids off with my parents in Wales and go on a boat trip or play golf - just have fun. It’s important to spend some time by ourselves."
The couple live in Bermuda with their two children, son Dylan and daughter Carys.
Law Lords rule in Douglas photo row - May 2 2007
The House of Lords today allowed an appeal by OK! magazine in its marathon court battle with rival Hello! over the wedding pictures of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas.
But the victory was soured by a finding that Hello! hadn’t injured OK!’s business - and the estimated £8 million costs of the case are expected to be shared by the two magazines.
The two Hollywood stars weren’t involved in the House of Lords case.
OK! signed a £1 million deal with the couple for exclusive coverage of their wedding in November 2000 at New York’s Plaza Hotel, but Hello! came out with its own version at the same time.
Three out of five Law Lords found in OK!’s favour over confidentiality of their exclusive deal when the two Oscar winners and OK! sued Hello! over paparazzi pictures which had been taken secretly.
The Douglases and OK! won at the High Court in April 2003 but the saga continued after an award of £1 million damages was quashed when Hello! successfully went to the Court of Appeal in May 2005.
Now the findings of the House of Lords will reinstate the damages but the costs award against OK! will now be shared.
The Law Lords found that Hello! did breach confidentiality.
The £14,600 damages awarded to Michael and Catherine by the High Court for the distress and inconvenience the Hello! coverage caused them wasn’t challenged at the Court of Appeal.

The glamorous 37-year-old, who is married to Michael Douglas, is already the face of American beauty and perfume house Elizabeth Arden.

She went on to appear in numerous little noticed films and series’, including a made for TV film, Titanic, and comic book movie The Phantom, alongside Billy Zane. It was around this time that she was picked to star with Antonio Banderas in The Mask of Zorro and Sean Connery in Entrapment. These films would make Catherine in to the Hollywood star we know today.
In 2000 she starred in Stephen Soderburgh’s Traffic with her future husband Michael Douglas. When they married later that year there was much critcism of the age difference (Douglas being 25 years her senior), however their marriage continues to go from strength to strength and they now have two children, Dylan (born in 2000) and Cerys (born in 2003).
Between babies and awards ceremonies CZJ has made a real name for herself as a leading lady in films such as The Terminal, Ocean’s Eleven and America’s Sweethearts. She has also won an Oscar for her all-singing, all-dancing part in musical Chicago whilst also working as spokeswoman for Elizabeth Arden.
