Coleen McLoughlin
- Profession: Footballer's girlfriend
- Place/Date of Birth: Liverpool, 03 April 2020
- Associated with: Wayne Rooney
Last week, the fiancee of football star Wayne Rooney, said in her column in Closer magazine: "Apparently more and more young women are getting into debt because they try to shop and party like a footballer’s wife. If I heard of anyone doing that I’d tell them to get a grip. "There’s so much great stuff on the high street - you can look amazing on a budget."
The 20-year-old hopes that the shopping public will follow her advice and the £20 prom dress will be whipped off the shelves, along with £12 evening shoes and £4 beaded charm bracelets, which have been designed for the cause.
The campaign has raised a whopping £11.4 million over the past nine years, enabling Breast Cancer Care to develop its centres and helping the Breast Cancer Campaign fund 12 independent research venues.
Other celebrities that are supporting the outlet this year include Geri Halliwell, Kate Winslet, Bianca and Sheryl Gascoigne.
Coleen says to get a grip - Aug 30, 2020
Women who get into debt as they ape the lifestyle of a footballer’s wife have been warned "to get a grip" by glamorous WAG Coleen McLoughlin. The fiancee of England soccer star Wayne Rooney, known for her love of shopping, has said anyone can look great on a budget.
In her latest column for Closer magazine the 20-year-old said: "Apparently more and more young women are getting into debt because they try to shop and party like a footballer’s wife. "If I heard of anyone doing that I’d tell them to get a grip."
Research published last week showed an increasing number of women are becoming bankrupt, crippled by credit card debts and soaring household bills. The proportion of women bankrupts has risen from 42% to 44% over the past year, according to accountants Wilkins Kennedy. Since 2002, the figure has risen from 32% to 42%.
Coleen has been pictured laden with bags from London stores but later this week will make her debut in a TV advert for supermarket Asda’s clothing fashion brand George.
She added: "There’s so much great stuff on the high street these days that you can look amazing on a budget. "I also don’t think it makes much sense to say someone wants to look like or be like a footballer’s wife as there are hundreds of us and we all have our own style."

It looks like those Weightwatchers sessions weren’t quite enough for Coleen - she has now taken up body combat classes in an effort to shift those last pounds. "It’s lik aerobics but with lots of punches and kicks," she explained, "I’m not sure it would be any good for self defence but it’s great for toning you up and de-stressing." Wayne better watch out...just in case.
Coleen Watches Weight - Jul 06
Coleen McLoughlin has never tried to be anything but one of the girls. So it’s no surprise to hear that she’s gone and done what most of us do when we’re on holiday and gorged herself silly on fatty foods. Ok, Coleen tucked in to her supersized Maccy D meals in St Tropez but junk’s junk and the WAG managed to put on half a stone. And forget private trainers and silly celeb diets, good old Coleen’s joining the queue for the scales at Weightwatchers to help her shift those extra pounds and squeeze back in to those Gucci dresses. During her last spell at the top slimming club Coleen won herself a gold star and no doubt she’ll be adding another to the Rooney-McLoughlin fridge door this time.

Coleen met aspiring footballer Wayne Rooney at St John Bosco Catholic school where, she says, he pestered her in to going out with him by constantly asking ’are you gonna ring me?’ Their first date is reported to have been at the local cinema, where they watched Austin Powers 2. Although Coleen left school with a respectable ten GCSEs and aspirations to become an actress (she had starred in school productions of Grease and Bugsy Malone), by this time she had become something of a celebrity as Wayne became one of England’s most famous young footballers.
Tabloid excitement followed as Coleen shopped ’til she dropped, forgave Wayne an ill advised dalliance with a prostitute, accepted a proposal on a petrol station forecourt then threw her £46,000 ring in to the otter enclosure at the zoo. By the time she was 18 Coleen was one of the most photographed women in the country and her developing style had won her legions of fans.
Before long Coleen had no need to spend her boyfriend’s money - she had amassed a fortune of £5.5m of her own through sponsorship deals, writing her own column for Closer, modelling for Asda (whom she is also in talks to design a range for), and a deal to write her own book, Welcome to My World. Meanwhile she has challenged public perception through a presenting stint on Tonight With Trevor McDonald in which she spoke about Rett’s Syndrome.
Coleen, who lives in Cheshire, will reportedly marry Wayne in 2008.
