Amy Winehouse

  • Profession: Singer
  • Place/Date of Birth: Enfield, London , 14 September 2020
  • Associated with: Blake Fielder-Civil

"Amy was discharged from the hospital this afternoon and has been advised to take complete rest. Scheduled performances in Norway and Denmark this week have been cancelled."

Festival organisers said Amy cancelled with no explanation.

A message on their website said: "The news of the cancellation came abruptly and surprisingly upon us a little before one o’clock this afternoon.

"Winehouse’s large crew arrived, and her backing band had just finished their sound check when we were notified.

"So far no reason has been stated. We will be back with more news as soon as we have been informed."

Winehouse was replaced on the bill at short notice by Norwegian band Minor Majority.

This is the latest in a string of cancellations by the 23-year-old star.

Recently she has pulled out of T in the Park and Liverpool’s Summer Pops event.

The singer, whose biggest hit is Rehab, has a reputation for hard drinking.

But she has put her habit of cancelling gigs down to being a perfectionist.

Amy hunts for Florida home? - Aug 1 2007
Amy Winehouse is apparently leaving Camden behind for the sunnier climes of Miami.

She and husband Blake Fielder-Civil are looking for a love-nest by the beach in the place where they secretly tied the knot earlier this year.

Apparently Miami was also the place where Blake realised he was in love with Amy. In 2006 she took him on a secret tour of the US, although he had a girlfriend and she was still seeing boyfriend Alex Claire, a friend of the couple told The Sun.

The pair even looked into marriage licences while they were there.

Having decided to put the wedding on hold, they returned in May this year to marry.

The friend said: "Amy is romantic - it is a special place for her because that is where they got married.

"It is ideal. They have the sunshine, the beach and a brilliant nightlife too - they couldn’t be without a bar for long."

The friend added: "Her mum hated the fact that Amy got married without her over there. She wanted to do the whole huge Jewish wedding thing for her little princess.

"Amy wants to buy a place out there to prove to her mum how much she loves it."

Amy’s ’ring-rusty’ return - July 20 2007
Amy Winehouse’s return to the stage after two weeks of cancelled gigs - due to "exhaustion" - looks like it wasn’t the success she could have hoped for.

The singer was performing at the Eden Project in Cornwall - but it seems she sprinted off stage without an explanation, and slapped herself in the face and hit her head with her microphone several times when she returned.

And the award-winning songstress - who is one of the favourites to win the Mercury Music Prize - also forgot her own lyrics, according to reports.

Her spokesman told the Daily Mirror: "Amy was annoyed with herself. She is a bit ring-rusty after not having played for a while and was upset after making a few mistakes in the set."

The soul singer was meant to play a set at T in The Park and the Oxygen festival but blamed both cancellations on exhaustion.

Biography

Amy Winehouse hails from Osidge Lane, Southgate, although she currently lives in Camden. She is being feted as the new big thing with a voice likened to soul artists of the caliber of American soul queen Erykah Badu.

Amy and her brother Alex were brought up by her mum and grandmother, and fondly remembers ’Growing up in East Finchley was cool.’ She started playing guitar at 12 and listening to jazz. Her acceptance into the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School seemed to spell big things for Amy, although she was expelled at 15, apparently for getting her nose pierced. She carried on her studies at an all girls school in Mill Hill, which she hated as there were no fella’s there.

Amy made appearances with the Youth Jazz Orchestra, produced a demo tape of jazz covers that was picked up by Universal/Island Records, and they signed her almost immediately. She released her album Frank in October 2003 and supported Jamie Callum on his national tour. Amy then went on to be nominated for two Brit Awards, British Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Artist. Not bad for a girl of 20!
