I'd heard a lot about the venue from the old Pistol days, and came to check it out.

Camden's a great place and the Dublin Castle had a great line-up. I wasn't dissapointed with Carlotti, they were one of the best I've seen for a long time!

Chanting "Son of Mine" on route to the chippy! None of that art rock crap or men in tight white tops!

Kiria said on 04th August ... "The Dublin castle is an institution! Legendary London music spot and never ever a let down. There are not many music spots that have remained open or unchanged - i.e. the Monarch (now Barfly) which is now pretty grim.

The sound is always brilliant - great for bands wanting to play and not be let down by a manky engineer and great for those listening. Ok, so the smoking rule sucks when you are watching bands as being Rock and roll folk people keep walking in and out, but then it does everywhere so can't be helped..."

Dublin Castle is clearly a well established rock venue for underground noises, leather dressed individuals and persons interested in the curious art of tie-dying. The venue is a small but airy room with a bar at the front end served by a busy bar woman with little taste for a smile. The drinks are around £3 a pint which is a little expensive for camden and there are just a few tables and seats across the wooden floor leading to the back. At the back is a larger room with stage for perfomances and the sound system is very loud although well confined to the second room. In the front room is commercial punk music and a little heavier metal and downstairs the toilets maze into one another- all the while poisoning your mind with red walls, band posters and a moderately busy audience.

Overall the pub is small but purpose-built for metal gigs and serves this rather well- a little further from the other camden venues but in good form - perhaps alittle expensive and with the attitude of the staff it can't really hope for better than a 5/10:

The below review has been written by someone who is very jealous and resentful of the frontman of the band.

It lists songs that were not played in the set and describe the night incorrectly. I have been informed that this person is personally attacking the singer of the band for 'girlfriend' issues, which explains why it is factually wrong and written out of spite. Who says rock n' roll is dead!?

I did see all the other bands and Junkstar were very, very good. No wonder they are having some great opportunities coming their way. Tight and packing a punch, their 25 minute set was recieved fantastically well by the crowd who filled out the venue as the set wore on. Nice pop melodies combined with some atmospheric rock dronery to showcase.

Ones to watch - recommended."

living up to the first half of their name.

Singer JC clearly has a messiah complex to match his
initials but sadly this JC is unlikely to rise again.

Glam/Punk and powerpop are 3 of my favourite things
but on this showing Junkstar botch all 3.

"Going Nowhere" was aptly titled guitar plod,
"Bluebottles" buzzed but didn't thrill and "Rock Bottom"
scraped the barrel of indie dregs and came up
smelling of stale riffage.

The sparse crowd barely raised a sweat as the band
went through the motions which they had obviously
practised monotonously.

Don't give up the day jobs guys, in the history books of
rock you're a footnote at best.

Tanya said on 10th March ... "This venue is impressive, more so for the sound although how much can be attributed to the soundman I'm not sure. After watching the soundchecks I decided the first two bands were for me. The brilliant Analogue Bombs who were second on the bill simply rocked the place and coupled with the Dublin Castle's set up made it everything a venue should be. However, the first band on, The Project Aurora were something else.

Although the majority of the crowd were still in the bar (how typical!) this band had the 20 or so people around the stage freneticaly dancing from the first song. I am not sure what music they were playing and I haven't heard anything like it before but it was one of those little gems you come across and can only come across in a venue like this.

Long live the Dublin Castle and looking forwards to another night of "hidden" gems soon."

Though the pub looks like it could do with a good scrub, it just highlights the rock integrity the venue has held and still manages to sustain.

The atmosphere is a blast especially on Saturdays, but a long wait can entail, if you are in a group, it may be a tricky one.

Regardless of the wait,once you are in you won’t get out as easily, like tinned sardines you will be close by to raving revellers…but NB, being a prestigious pub for established and budding musicians, you will never know who you may be rubbing shoulders with."

"Generally as heaving and sweaty as the fashion of the time directs, the Dublin Castle is up there as one of the quintessential jaunts in the Camden live music scene. Something is going on in here every night of the week, and you’re more than likely to spot a rising indie band or even a bit of Blur kicking about. The prices aren’t bad, usually around a fiver, and you will definitely see a band every night.

It’s a pub, but a pub totally turned on for Camden, with a lively, scatty charm. Get down there, check it out and sweat along with everyone else: you’re in Camden now, not Shoreditch.

Wierd name i know but these guys were fantastic! Sort of Talking heads meets Tears for Fears. They were a breath of fresh air when there are so many average bands about!"
