The St. Pancras Grand Champagne Bar

Heralded as one of the most luxurious train stations in the world and most certainly one of the grandest, Kings Cross St Pancras plays host to its own Champagne Bar, a tidy little booth opposite the platform for the Eurostar trains and catered by a couple of well dressed, well accented, French bar persons. The bar consists of a square booth with fridges housing bottles and magnums of varying priced Champagne. There are bar stools around the booth and in the distance- leather couch’s to sit and watch commuters scurry by. We arrive at the bar during some bad time-keeping during a round of the Monopoly pub crawl. We grab the menu with its strong variety of champagnes on offer and, (on a budget and to our horror) nothing too cheap sprung out at us.

Actually this turned out to be a blessing in disguise because even the cheapest glass on the menu was a wonderful refreshing burst of bubbles and flavour and we decided to spend too long drinking and chatting, missing crucial drinking time elsewhere on our day’s travels. Overall, simple, yet effective and does add to the quality that the station presentation requires to upkeep its image, it just needs to be laid out a bit better and feel more like a venue.
