I tried this place the other night (I was in Kentish Town for a gig) and have to agree with some of the other reviewers here - the food is really average, bordering on poor, the restuarant was fairly empty and the atmosphere practically non existant (well, if you can count a few tea lights as 'atmosphere'). Won't be going again I'm afraid.

Oh dear! Whatever happened to this place? I used to be a regular customer but suddeny it had a make-over ( a pretty naff one at that!) and the food went (quite literally) off the boil! And I can't be the only person to think this because the last time I went was a Friday night and me and my boyfriend were the only people in there - all night!

I must agree with some of the other reviewers here - there are much better places to get great Thai food in London! It is cheap and cheerful - which is good if you're down to your last 10p but the food is positively pedestrian these days and the service not much better. The decor is hilarious though. It looks as though they've had a make-over since the last time I visited (some years ago I'll admit) and it's not Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen that's done it that's for sure! Still, on the positive side, if you're stoney broke it beats eating out of dustbins.

I agree with Jamie below. I've had much better Thai food. Yes, it is fairly cheap but it seems you only get what you pay for. I had dinner there a few weeks with three friends of mine and we all thought it was very 'so-so', as was the service. And the decor made me feel as though I was in someone's back kitchen rather than a restuarant. Haven't been to the Blue Moon yet but will give it a go.

I used to frequent this little restuarant regularly a few years ago but in the last few years it's definitely gone off the boil a bit - something reflected by the number of empty tables on a Friday night. True, it's had a bit of facelift decor-wise but that can't hide the fact that the food is fairly mediocre and what one reviewer found a firework of flavours I found a bit of a damp squib. You can't knock the prices mind you, which are ideal for students and the like, but if you're after a really tasty Thai meal I'd recommend the Blue Moon restauraunt just up the road which does the best Green Curry I've tasted and which has somewhat stolen this takeaway's thunder since it opened a couple of years back.

Small and family-run, Thai Cafe serves some of the best home-cooked Thai food I have ever had. The dishes are simple and comforting, with some surprising items missing from the more upscale Thai venues around town. Every dish is a fireworks of flavours and textures and at around 4 pounds per item a true bargain. Service is friendly and although sometimes a bit erratic, convinces through the family atmosphere. I am a bit of a food snob, but Thai Cafe deserves five stars.
