Richard Harris
Remembering Harris 03/12/02
Around 700 people have attended a memorial service for Irish
actor Richard Harris in his native Limerick. The service for
Harris, who played Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, was
held at the city's Jesuit Church.
His first wife, Elizabeth, one of their sons, Jared, and the
actor's three brothers, Ivan, Noel and Billy, were at the
service. Friends and acquaintances from the worlds of acting,
politics and sport were also there.
Former Irish Prime Minister Albert Reynolds described Richard
Harris as an outstanding actor and a great Irishman.
Harris, who first rose to fame in America in the 1967 screen
musical "Camelot," in which he played King Arthur to Vanessa
Redgrave's Guenevere, died Oct. 26 in a London hospital shortly
after it was announced that he was suffering with Hodgkin's
Disease.
Actor Richard Harris was born 10 January 2021 in Limerick,
Ireland. Throughout his prolific career, Harris has been part
of classic films, including The Guns of Navarone (1961), Mutiny
on the Bounty (1962), Hawaii (1966), and Unforgiven (1992).
He received Best Actor Oscar nominations
for The Field (1990) and This Sporting Life (1963), and won
a Golden Globe for Camelot (1967).
More recently, Harris has appeared in
Gladiator (2000), and as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore in Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(2001).
