Jonathan Miller
Jonathan Miller qualified as a doctor of medicine
in 1959. Between 1961 and 1964 he co-authored and appeared
in Beyond The Fringe both in London and New York. Since then
his career has covered many different fields: author; lecturer;
television producer and presenter; theatre, operatic and film
director.
Miller made his operatic debut in 1973, and has directed at
many of the world's great opera houses. In 1978 he made his
debut with the English National Opera. He has worked in television
and his series on the history of medicine, The Body in Question,
made him a household name.
During 1980/81 he directed 12 plays in the BBC's prestigious
Shakespeare. A frequent lecturer on a wide variety of subjects,
including a series of four lectures for the National Gallery
entitled From the Look of Things which he delivered in New
York in April 1995.
He has also written a number of books which include The Body
in Question and States of Mind, both based on the BBC series
of the same name; The Human Body and The Facts of Life.
