One In Three People Have Broken New Year Resolutions By Today
January 19th signals the end of our best laid plans
If you made a New Year’s resolution this year, there’s a one in three chance that by today you will have broken it. And despite the belt-tightening effects of the downturn, health related resolutions are more likely than money based ones to have gone down the pan by now.
A new nationwide survey reveals that January 19th is the point at which our collective willpower reaches critical mass and goes bang. The best-laid New Year plans of over a third of adults have gone astray by now. While 28% of us did manage a full two full weeks, one in twenty broke our resolutions the very first day we made them. A further 31% are expected to see in February before giving up completely.
According to research by Benenden Healthcare, more than 50% of us think health based resolutions like losing weight or improving general fitness are the hardest to keep, compared to financial, professional or emotional resolutions.
Luckily a new ’Fresh Start, Get on Track’ initiative - launched today at benuk.com - aims to provide us all with the extra help we need to keep our good intentions afloat through the rest of 2009 and beyond.
Celebrity fitness guru Nell McAndrew, who is supporting the ’Fresh Start, Get on Track’ campaign, says, ’I know from personal experience just how hard it is to stick to eating healthily and getting more exercise, and I know that you need all the help you can get to get into good habits and keep them going throughout the year. It only requires a few steps to make major changes in your lifestyle and improve your wellbeing, so logging onto the Benenden website is a really great, simple way to start this off.’
